30k budget? 987 cayman s, 981 boxster or A45 amg?
Discussion
Need some advice.. Currently drive an Audi S1 as a second car (Toyota IQ for the daily commute) but need a change after 10mnths.
Budget is around 30-35k, annual mileage less than 10k. practicality not a worry, good residuals value is important to me. Want something that feels special.
Currently looking at a 987 2 cayman S (981 'S' out of budget), early 981 boxster 2.7 or fully loaded A45 amg.
Never driven a Porsche but been promised I won't look back and like the idea of the ownership experience as a 23yo. Although worried a 981 2.7 or 987 'S' will feel slow after a 320bhp hot hatch, hence why I'm tempted by the pure speed and that obnoxious exhaust note of the A45 amg.
Anyone been in the same boat?

You'd be better off stretching budget to buy a 987 R or Spyder. Won't lose any money that way. If AMG is of interest get a C63 Edition
yes because a nice R is £48k and Spyder's well the 3 at OPC's are all £50k and not really a 10k PA every day car!that's a long way of a £30/£35k spend !
And as always miles kills cars value esp car like this which you pay top miles for low miles for.
I would look for a 987.2 Black ED S in Cayman or Boxster form these are about £35k and will hold value and not be to miles sensitive.

A little bit of haggling should see you in a nice 981 S. EG:

Wrong seats & wheels but it's a manual.

Forget a Cayman black edition they are RARE especially in manual (less than 5 registered I think?) that boat sailed for a cheap one some time ago I would not entertain a 981 boxster and you will struggle to find a good one for 30k much better off looking for a nice low miles 987.2 BoxsterS
So this would be my choice: low miles, passive shocks, all important Xenons the only downer imo is no sports seats!

Much better value than a CaymanR and for a few k could turn it into a 360hp belter and for a few k more put some nice shocks on it and it will still be cheaper than the cheapest CR and better!

Couldn't spend this kind of money on anything with north of 20k on the clock.. As silly as that sounds. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

You def need to drive and make your mind up - for me the 987 just looks too dated. If your budget goes to 35k then 981 S Boxster and Cayman are just in budget.
OPC cars being 2 years warranty which is well worth the premium, or find a private one with warranty remaining.
Agreed. That's my only issue with the 987, to me it looks its age. But it also seems the most sensible option for my budget. Need to have a spin in a 981 and 987 to decide!OPC cars being 2 years warranty which is well worth the premium, or find a private one with warranty remaining.

Also look Lotus Evora.
Been a passenger in one... nice noise, went well although build quality on the early cars would be a worry for me. I also couldn't live with that head-unit.Anyway, back to the question, i think the Cayman feels more special than the merc. Its certainly more of a sports car

That's already very cheap - extremely basic spec notwithstanding - whether you'd get any more off it I somehow doubt unless it's a Cat C or D.http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

Black Edition's are a marketing tool, extra options in original price but not a true special limited numbers cars.
k.
You could say the same for CR! Not so the Spyder with its unique body!k.
The Cayman black edition has same 330hp engine and spyder wheels of CR and was built in a lot less numbers than the CR and spyder although I would take a BoxsterS or a spyder over Boxster BE! But I would not rule out a Cayman BE as prices use to be just above regular caymanS but £10k cheaper than a CR ! But as said I think you will struggle to find one now!

You be better to go for a 987.2 Boxster S for low £20's as these will have depreciated or a higher mileage 987.2 Spyder for £35k.
