J8bbk....... Good man.
Nice report and just how I felt when I drove a 981 for the first time a week or so ago.
Its a car that is so welcoming and special to get into, and that growl from the rear is just right. Its not in your face like an F type.
The cabin is a much nicer place to be in than most other sports cars. You just feel at home straight away when you drive off.

Good luck with your car..... And enyoy it when ever you can.

Thanks Gadgit - couldn't agree more! Will update as the search continues.

Not read the whole thread... But was in a specialist car dealer last weekend and they have an absolutely stunning 65 plate red 2.7 caymen in.... A little over budget but practically a new car and looks very much like a gt4 with all the kit....

Beautiful

Thanks HighwayStar,

Current must haves are; PDK, 19" or 20" alloys, Nav, Bluetooth, Bose, electric seats, cruise control, climate control, Sport design wheel.

would also like but not vital; PSE, Sport chrono, PASM, Extended leather

Can't handle upkeep on another black car unfortunately - looks like sapphire blue, grey or white.

No surprise at all to your experience of the 981, the driving position felt right the moment my butt was in the seat. Like it was made for me... A great initial feeling, a buzz, I was grinning before I'd even pulled away. That howl, the very core of the car.
Mine is PDK, Basalt black, PSE, PASM, 20" wheerls, Sport Crono plus a load of other stuff. I love the Sport Design wheel but miss the volume controls etc for music... No real hardship though. Once you've test driven the variants of the 981 CS. You decide what's best for you and what options you want/must have and those you can take or leave. Happy hunting.
I have all your must haves except climate & Bose, had Bose in my TTS and found it very disappointing.
PDK was a maybe & black a definite no no but now I have both. PDK is way better than DSG/S tronic but no way I'd try to convince anyone manual is dead. Black though, looks great but it's a pure bh to keep clean but I knew it would be. Basically as I wasn't buying new it was the car that had all my must haves and more so was willing to compromise on the colour. Luckily I enjoy keeping the car looking good.

Am I correct in thinking the two main BOSE speakers in the 981 are located behind the seats? I seem to recall someone saying they had to drive with the seats forward (not easy if you're over 6') to avoid muffling them.

SPP in my 981 is better than BOSE in my '62 TTS. It's all I need bearing in mind the engine and tyre roar.

I'm really pleased you found the 981 a good car j8kkb, although I have to admit with that spec list you're probably looking at a new one smile

Happy hunting and let us know how you get on with the S - this week I'm finding the S almost too powerful (I said almost) so you don't get much chance to go through the gears but you learn to between 2nd 3rd and oocassionaly 4th to have some fun.

+1. SPP is definitely better than my experience of BOSE in the TTS. I love music across a wide range of genres and I found the performance of the BOSE varied dependant on what I was listening to. It couldn't handle rock but something like Prince was ok. SPP is head and shoulders about BOSE IMO.

Would be very happy with your spec! Do find Black a nightmare though - forever fighting swirl and water marks as I'm into detailing. White or Grey I feel would be a good option if available. Nothing beats a clean black car though!!

Unfortunately a compromise is inevitable. Low miles, paint, nav and PDK are they only things I wouldn't move on. Most S cars seem to be well specced, maybe that is the answer.

My TTS was my first black (Panther Black) car in 20+ years. I'd forgotten...

I'd wash it and it would gleam. But the first shower or damp road, the rain spots and dirt would make me seethe. I vowed never to have black again and went back to the best colour for dirt - boring silver.

My TTS was Solar Orange... I could leave it for weeks. Up close you could see the grime but from 10ft it looked tip top.
Racing Yellow was my number one choice for a Cayman. Colchester Porsche is just round the corner so I had a look at colours on real cars. Sapphire Blue and Guards Red were in the running too. Red I'd never liked on any car but they had a GTS in the showroom and that swung it for me. Then on the forecourt I saw Rodium Silver. Now to me silver was always shiny grey but on the Cayman it just looked superb. Not boring at all. Rodium Silver and Racing Yellow were most the desired if the spec was right. Most black Caymans seem to have the highly imaginative coalmine black interior. Black wasn't happening. I looked for months but nothing came up in my budget or in an acceptable colour and spec.
Then I spotted a Basalt Black CS with amber and black leather interior, optioned to the hilt. It really works with the Basalt. Loving the car.
I bought the car from a Porsche Specialist, Cameron Sports, just outside Bath... I've been a little worried as not going the OPC route that something big may come up... Warranty is up at the end of the month and yesterday the car went off to the OPC for the 111 point check so I can extend the warrant and it's sailed through. Just a litre low on coolant. Very pleased with myself and the car.

Talking of 111 point checks... I originally put a deposit down on a private sale 2013 Cayman in a rare colour (for a 981 Cayman) Aqua Blue...

The seller, on his way to his OPC to have the 111 point check done for me, was rear ended by a Peugeot...

Destiny?

Oh that is/was nice... I bet you could've cried when you got the news. It wasn't to be.

Well, just off the phone with OPC, 111 point check, warranty and roadside assist 2 yrs apiece, £1770.
TTS warranty was under £500/yr.. Just about the only thing I miss about that car.

...and will you keep topping up the warranty for another 10 years? That'll be £10k+ over time. Worth it if the engine goes bang I guess? What price peace of mind eh?

Good question... I have given it some thought and sought advice. I'm lucky to have a very highly rated indie in my back yard. Autostrasse. They recommended that I stay with OPC for the additional 2yrs then bring the car to them. I was impressed with that as they could've said start using them as soon as the warranty runs out.
Autostrasse don't offer maintenance plans. Revolution Porsche do though. They seem to offer a phenomenal service with high praise from owners but they are 210miles away. I have 2yrs to think about it so no rush.
