Not if you need adjustable lumbar support...there are some two-way seat users who have inserted bolsters into the seats to make up for the lack of support in the lower back so I opted for the 14-way seats as the best compromise. Having had a prolapsed disc, lumbar support was the only must-have option on the car for me.
Yes, I too have 14 way in my 981 and they lose the side bolsters which I found uncomfortable. Remember too you get seat base front/rear height adjustment, extending thigh support, and electric steering column which lifts away from your knees on exit and entry. Sounds gimmicky but means you can set the wheel low and still get in/out easily.

Had the fully adaptive seats as I had them in the 981 and loved them. I am of smaller frame though wink

I've gone 18 way as assists with getting in/out as am getting on a bit, & had no issues on demo cars with that option...........

Great review, however like nearly every other review in summary - brilliant car, shame about the engines.

I'm 59 and a bit porky, I'll be practising my exit technique in private. My knee tends to get stuck under the wheel and exiting the car on all fours, whilst amusing my kids, is not exactly in keeping with the Porsche philosophy.

I had issues due to dodgy hip, but with the memory I will be able to set entry/exit modes to suit. ie: steering wheel forward & up, with seat set back & up as high as it will go, can then swivel round & lever out using steering wheel & window. also will practice in private when car arrives !!

These would have been the best seat choice for us, too - had them in our much loved '06 Boxster S. Sadly they weren't an option with the GTS - clearly "sports"'seats weren't considered sporty enough for the GTS!

Video: Porsche 718 Cayman S vs BMW M2 - Track Shootout

Probably the only thing I'd consider as an alternative.
I'll do a back-to-back report next month as an M2 is joining my 718 Boxster S.

[quote=FourPotPorsche]Found this little review and video of the engine sound and I have to say I really like the sound under acceleration. It's not in the same league as the nasp 6 pot but it does have its own merits...more importantly for me, I can definitely live with it.

http://www.autoblog.com/2016/09/27/2017-porsche-71...

It's a totally different sound indeed from the flat 6, certainly has it's own character. But I could never accept it, or the power delivery, after the BGTS I have now I'm afraid. Too coarse, crude almost in comparison, and I don't personally think it suits a high class sports car, top end hot hatch maybe.

Coarse sounding indeed, I agree. Very raspy and mechanical.

Not sure where it sits, not with hot hatches though. It's a fairly unique sound unlike any I've heard before, including burbly Scoobys.

I don't dislike it. It's just different.

I have to say that, while Lotus, quite validly, get some criticism in the press over access - Porsche seem to escape. My Cayman, by "virtue" of its long and thick doors, in tight parking spaces, often poses as many issues as my Elise did. (And, no disrespect, no-one would describe me as porky - though perhaps a little creaky)

Nope, I don't think you're ready for a 5-door Evoque just yet, even if it's "no more expensive than a Porsche 718"!! smile

Help me out - where does the "no more expensive than a Porsche 718"!! come from? I can't see me ever being ready for a Chelsea tractor (even a Porsche one) - unless of course hearses have to be 4WD.

Not a quote from PH but a modest attempt at irony.

Dead right. [Note the cunning play on words.]

A recent survey in USA shows that,
  • SUV prices have risen massively in the past decade. (Macan is a decent vehicle but good grief they're expensive.)
  • Cars, including sportscars, look like relatively good value in comparison. (Base 718 looks a snip at under £40k)
"Jack 'em up and sell 'em expensive." biggrin

Not sure that I should have posted this in the Vibes thread as for many this is the least postive aspect of the 718....
Agree totally regarding PSE on a 718. Why amplify that racket?! Trying to make silk purse out of sows ear comes to
mind. I know this is a 718 positive vibes thread and it is a great car - apart from the sound. "Characterful" might be the kindest way to describe it!

Nice find, thanks. Unless I'm missing something, it looks like its a comparison between non-S (with PSE) and S (PSE not specified). Does sound like when I listened to them both back to back at the OPC, the non-S being a slightly better and smoother sounding note than the S.

having only driven both 718 Boxster versions, I finally got inside a 718 Cayman today. The exhaust is way louder inside the Cayman compared to the Boxster, I'm not sure any louder would be desirable tbh.

Agree that the exhaust is louder in Cayman compared to the Boxster 718, have not driven one with sports exhaust but hope this will be louder still on my Cayman 718S.
