Can I just say to get it over with ......nasp,power delivery, nasp, lag, nasp, noise, nasp and not forgetting nasp.
That genuinely made me laugh. That old broken record, shiny shiny new new etc...
I have a 2.0 Cayman test drive lined up early September and hope I will like it enough to buy it. Should be delivery May 17 providing I can avoid the over-40k road tax penalty, not that the process is totally clear in my mind, what with list price, options, contributions etc...

It's funny, because when I joined PH back in 2006 I'd just bought my first Porsche...a gen 1 987 2.7 Boxster.
All I had back then were a small minority of keyboard warriors dominating these pages with the same stuff about how it wasn't a real Porsche and it was a 'hairdressers' car etc.
Now that very same car is viewed as a drive for purists with true analog controls and the best engine.
I then bought a 987.2 Cayman 2.9......ooooh what an ugly car....
Then a 981 2.7 Cayman.......rubbish steering and brake peddle feel......
There seems to be a pattern forming. Glad I take no notice of some of the rubbish talked about on these pages....I'd never buy any Porsche!!!
You're absolutely right. Entirely down to human nature - people are naturally unaccepting of change. Takes time for new ideas to bed in and settle. All I had back then were a small minority of keyboard warriors dominating these pages with the same stuff about how it wasn't a real Porsche and it was a 'hairdressers' car etc.

Just look at the bile and hate for Bangle's E60 5 series when it came out over a decade ago. Nowadays it's viewed as some kind of design classic.

Will see how my business is at the end of the year ....if I feel things are pretty much ok, I will be ordering a 718 Cayman 2.0 F4T (!) in Carmine Red.....

I collected my 2ltr. Boxster on 1st July and have had a good laugh at the negative views by some people on here. Most by people who have yet to see or drive the car. The biggest laugh I get though is when I drive the car. The best combination of handling/ride/brakeing/steering I've yet found in one car.

Couldn't have said it better myself.A good test for me - have I missed the previous car (2014 Aston Vantage Roadster)?
No,not once.

This guy likes the 718 Cayman S so it gets a place on the "Feel the love for the 718" thread

Nice review, thanks for posting it.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=C3wiQ7kjFzk
Def keeping PSE.
All over the place on colour though.
Was set on Carmine, but hadnt realised it is non metalic, for some reason I had in my head it was. Love the colour, but just feeling 1600 quid is taking the piss. Tempted by Sapphire but my last car was sapphire so should perhaps try something else. Then there is Black but my 981 Cayman was black..
So then I think, well Guards is free, is it 1600 worse than Carmine?
gah.

Haha! Welcome to my world. I must have been to 3-4 different OPCs to look at colour/wheels combos. I've told myself I'm sticking with Sapphire Blue and that's it now because it's become something of an obsession. I swear picking the colour is harder than choosing the car itself.
Also adding PASM after doing some research (and listening to you fine chaps) given that I'm going for 20" wheels.

Carmine is so nice though withe Platinum coated wheels. Def keeping PSE.

Although my other options would be Silver with Platinum wheels, or Black on Platinum maybe.

My test drive in a non PASM, PDK, 718 Boxster with 19" Boxster S wheels won me over and I placed a deposit for the OPC's last vacant build slot in December. Driving along a curved bypass road with numerous roundabouts brought out the best in the steering and the way it coped with poorly fitted ironwork was amazing for this type of car. I was loaned a demo 981 S for a couple of days before I took delivery of my Cayenne S in 2015, so my experience of the six pot is limited. I am getting on a bit so I don't need to rev an engine to give me a thrill, the turbo engine characteristics suit me fine asI have always preferred large capacity engines with low down torque. My 718 is due towards the end of December, so I might wait until January to take delivery.

I actually think the 4-pot lends itself to the chassis quite well, it makes it a little more lively / less inert as you can only have 265 rears now.
Certainly the extra torque makes steering with your right foot easier, though that said some of the extra playfulness is down to the tyres - Pzero N1 tyres are definitely a step forward in that department compared with their N0 predecessors.highscore said:

Indeed, we spent a long time anguishing over colour, sapphire blue was well up on a very short list! But our other cars at the time were all blue, our three previous Porsches were all blue so for that reason alone on our BGTS we chose Carrara white metallic with gloss black wheels and GTS gloss black exterior trims. Still wonder whether we made the right choice every time I see a sapphire blue Porsche on the road! Personally I'm not a fan of the platinum finish wheels, I'd prefer the standard silver or black. Be boring if we all liked the same things!I swear picking the colour is harder than choosing the car itself.

So today I drove a 718 boxster, manual sitting on 20" Carrera S wheels and a 2013 981 Cayman S sitting on 20" wheels. Both a similar price with a few options ticked on standard 718, hence the comparison.
So noise first... Neither had PSE. The 718 sounds like a bag of spanners from outside the car. On the move it sounds quite nice. A rorty flat 4 sound (roof up). I don't think I would bother with PSE. Loud enough already for me. The 981 sounds much better from outside the car. Was very quiet inside and I can see why PSE is deemed a good option on a 981. Overall I don't think the noise is "that" bad on a 718 and whilst I can understand it's not as good as a flat 6, It's not as bad as some make out.
Chassis - both cars on big wheels with no pasm. I think the 718 felt less crashy and I would be happy with no Pasm. On the 981 the ride was a little worse and a few big bumps jolted the wheels. I would want Pasm on a 981. Both handled superbly in circa 1.5 hours of driving. Much more compliant than my m135i.
Speed - base 718 plenty fast enough for me. 981s is quicker top end. 718 has more torque lower down which I think makes it feel faster in the mid range with turbo boost.
Gearbox. PDK is easy but the manual is great. I much preferred the involvement.
Overall I preferred the base 718, it feels better suited to everyday conditions for a daily driver. If the car is a weekend toy to thrash then a 981s requires more effort to get the best from it.
Now to decide, Cayman or Boxster. I am leaning towards Cayman with a few choice options.
