Obviously on a forum for Boxter /Cayman you will have comments from all sorts of people. Don't ever expect to choose a topic and consider that you have the right to only have answers from people that you want. It borders on childish to think you can monopolize a subject matter because you think you own it.

Getting back to Porsche owners, they tend to be the most bigoted people that you ever pass in another Porsche, not even bothering to acknowledge another owner.
Don't worry, I'm not including most of you lot in that category because most people on this forum are sports car owners first and formost.
Unfortunately there appears to be just a few on here that border on the bigoted scale of thinking that they obviously have the better car?

I am a 981 man and will probably stay that way, because I am partially bigoted into believing that the 981 will become a classic due to the low numbers produced.
But this will not stop me waving to a 718 driver passing me.
I would like to think that the 718 drivers would do the same to me.
But the bitterness shown by some on hear makes me worry that this may not happen.
Never had this problem on the TVR forum....
What a shame.

It's not just me then. I own Ferraris, Porsches (including a 981S Boxster which is a great car, even when I drive it the day after one of my Fezzas) and various other stuff and generally do a little wave to anything interesting, old or new. The only people that never wave back are Porsche owners, no matter what I'm in. Best people are the young lads in whatever modded up hot hatch they may be in (If you're into cars you're ok by me, no matter what your taste or budget) who generally give me a big thumbs up back.

It's a bit naïve to call a thread 'Positive Vibes. . . ' and expect nothing bar an ego bath for those who have chosen the car in the title, especially on this forum?

Are we going to start promoting 'Safe Space' style rules and demand that no-one is ever exposed to a contrary view?
I think you miss the point. All views are freely expressed and no censorship should be imposed but, if you want to post a contrary view to the main thrust of the thread, then at least attempt to make it stand up to scrutiny.

Edited by FourPotPorsche on Thursday 6th October 23:08
That is fine if you're dealing with facts - the 718 is a faster car than a 981, so no problem with rating that as a positive, but subjective views on matters such as styling and engine note can only be agreed with or discounted; scrutiny makes no difference.

You have now been provoked into 981 bashing and your whole thread could descend into the usual morass of vitriolic tit for tat postings.

If you believe the 718 is a 'far superior incarnation' of the Caymam, buy one if you haven't already got one, and enjoy it. I am not anti 718 and I have no doubt it will feature on my list in a few years time, but I don't think you'll be able to ignore the fact that a lot of people think differently and are likely to tell you about it.

From that review:
"Some engine noise is also piped into the Cayman’s cockpit through a resonator located in the center console, so you can better hear the four-cylinder’s low-pitched growl."

Eh?

First I've heard of this ...

Interesting. Thanks for the link.

Sounds rather like the Soundaktor in the Golf R, which is also a resonator.

Definitely better than the Active Sound Design (ASD) which comes with the M235i I'm currently driving, which is an entirely artificial, synthesised sound.

So i decided to bring the 718 S PDK to work today. 40 miles, normally of A/B roads but this time i did the last 10 miles on the motorway. Its a bloody easy car to drive, if you want to just relax and drive, there can be no complaints. PDK is very good especially if its a daily, just makes life very easy. Like the torque shove in the back, and it is sustained through out the rev range, although i do feel it tailing off towards thte very top end. I like the smaller steering wheel compared to the 981 (Waiting for OPC to come back to me on a Boxster Spyder wheel for mine). The steering does feel better, less numb than the 981. It doesn't have a PSE so when my foot is to the floor and i have music on (not overly loud) the engine is whisper quite.

I will be doing a direct comparison video to my 981, comparing noise levels, inside and out the cabin, include cruise, acceleration from different parts of the rev range, different gears etc, and generally the looks also. I am starting really like the rear of the car.

The negatives in my drive are, If i was to bring my 981 to word, roof would be off, and i would be having alot of fun working the car, drivng it, having to come down gears, having to manually shift. The two cars feel a million worlds apart especially as one is manual and one is PDK.

Its a interesting comparison.

So I have finalised my spec (yesterday was my freeze date). This is what I have settled on:

718 Cayman S
Graphite Blue Metallic
Black / Crayon two-tone leather interior
Deletion of model designation
Bi-Xenon headlights including Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) ParkAssist (front and rear)
Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)
Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)
Sports exhaust system (incl. sports tailpipes in black)
20-inch Carrera S wheels
Wheels painted in satin black (complete)
GT sport steering wheel
Sports seats Plus (2-way, electric)
Seat heating
Carbon interior package (with leather interior)
Navigation Module for Porsche Communication Management (PCM)

Car is due to leave the factory 8th Nov. Does anyone know how long it generally takes for car to reach UK and be ready for collection once it has left the factory? Cannot wait now.

Graphite Blue is one of those colours that the configurator does not present well, but is fantastic in the metal. I saw a 991 in GB in the summer and it looked so well - I couldn't believe it was the shade of blue I'd looked at online.

I hope there's no currency fluctuation clause in the terms and conditions of order - or they'll be asking for another 10% on the price!

Yup, I remember having this conversation with the dealer in the midst of Brexit results when the pound first took a massive hit. He seemed to think the January price rise would "only" be a matter of "hundreds" but given the events of the last few days I'm not so sure!

I would imagine Porsche would have hedged a significant part of their currency exposure at least for a while.

Good point but conversely this might be a small price to pay for the good that Brexit is going to bring, free at last !

We can now export even more Marmite ! Yeah ! They love it on the continent !

I had a bit of a nose around the new 718 Cayman the other day, and I can't believe how good it looks. I know that, body wise, it is only a facelift, but the overall effect is quite remarkable. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is, but in my opinion, the new car looks much better than the 981. Interestingly, with the Boxster, I don't think the changes have had such an effect, and there is little to choose between them cosmetically.

I've only heard the engine on video, but it doesn't sound too bad to me (and I own a 986 Boxster). An earlier poster compared it to a V-twin motorbike, and I must say I've always loved the sound of Ducati motorbikes, so maybe I can accept the sound more readily than him. The power delivery must surely make it a more drive able machine on the road. Yes, my current car is a complete blast above 4000 rpm, but below is nothing special (many turbo diesels will out drag me at low revs) and you can't drive everywhere in 2nd or 3rd! Obviously you can drop straight from 6th too 3rd to overtake but it takes quite some rev matching....

I've never bought a new car before, but I'm seriously considering the 718. It's only silly things that put me off - like I resent having to pay inflated tax (after April 1st) just because the car is >£40k, and to a lesser extent that some owners look down upon the engine (although all early Porsches were 4 cylinder)

Anyway, in Cayman guise, I think the 718 is truly stunning - the best looking road car in my eyes since the F355. Congratulations to all those who've bought one. Enjoy!

I ordered a 718 cayman purely on looks.......I don't care whether it has 4 or 6 cylinders, and it will make a perfect daily

oh and last week saw a stunning agate Grey 718 Caymam in St Tropez.
