A single score point behind the 675LT Spider on the road? yes I can totally understand the rationale for that. I look forward to reading the reasons why, I could do with a chuckle.

Cheers, really appreciate that. I own such a variety of cars and enjoy each for vastly different reasons that my tastes and views aren't pigeon holed. I'm also not in the least bit concerned about future values and I've never been one to be bothered about other people's perceptions of me, my choices nor what I drive. I'm finding that this allows me to view each car I drive on it's own merits and I'm just starting to relax and enjoy doing the videos.

I just like cars.
All of that shone through in the link you gave us, and in the few videos of yours that I watched immediately afterwards. I know you're not bothered about other people's perceptions, but you really do have the most excellent taste in 4-wheeled vehicles, and it's not the most expensive ones that led me to that view.

Top man, very fair and unbiased appraisal, and was a useful sanity check for my 718 order. They're not a 981, but they're alright.

Thanks, sorry missed your post!

Yes, I have to say its an awesome car if a very different beast to a Cayman. The pull of 560bhp and 680nm from 1500 is rather addictive!

No Cayman on the horizon at the moment, but may take one out once they are more availabe.

Read the test when it came out. Only 5 cars genuinely "in the points". Only one of them is less than £136k. I won't give any more a spoiler than that.

Thanks for sharing the video!

718 championed at 4:44. I have the results and will post later.
Now that one seems more realistic than the stab Autocar did.

Good read. Thanks for sharing. Booked in for a test drive next week. There's been so much written about it, just can't wait to try it out for myself.

Good read that.

This sums it up for me ...

if you want a sports car to use for a Sunday morning thrash and weekends away, get an old Boxster GTS now. It will fulfil your needs better than either 718 Boxster or Boxster S and probably prove a lovely car to own. However, for buyers wanting to use their car in all scenarios including commuting, motorway slogs, B-road blasts and track days, they will find a lot more to like about this four-cylinder 'base' Boxster than they may have initially thought.

I fall into the later camp which is probably why I prefer my 718 to my 981 (plus my 981 was an ex demonstrator so I had no influence over the spec but the 718 is spec'd how I want it).

All the 718 threads on here clearly indicate 2 camps. Unfortunately the 981/NASP camp have been left a bit high and dry by the 718 so I guess your choices are

  1. keep running your 981's or earlier
  2. buy a used 981 or earlier
  3. hope a GTS or GT4 gives you NASP but acknowledging this will be more expensive
  4. get a 911 NASP if you really can go expensive
  5. switch brand
  6. wait for the next generation which will probably be hybrid at which point we can all converge back into one camp, although a friend has a BMW I8 so would this technology be so bad?
  7. stop driving

I'm firmly in the first category so more than happy with my BGTS!

Had a 718 Boxster S as a loan car today and a very nice specced one it was too Adaptive Seats, Full Leather, Sports Chrone, ACC, PASM, LED Lights etc etc but weirdly no Sports Exhaust (or at least no switch for one)...think it must have been easily £65k on the road. My normal Pork is a manual 997 GTS and I've never driven a PDK before.

Driving it "on the paddles" I thought it was a properly quick car and great fun to drive. Driven in auto mode I didn't really like it...it tended to change up very too early (around 3000 rpm) in traffic (on light throttle) and it seemed like you'd then end up with the engine labouring/off boost when you tried to accelerate. Obviously keeping the revs below 3000 rpm helps fuel economy but doesn't help the sound!

It was an interesting comparison for me because the cars are at a pretty much identical price point. I definitely prefer my car as a) the rear seats mean I use the car more (young kids) b) my car is a weekend car and c) I like the manual box and prefer the NA engine.

All that said the Boxster S is a hugely competent car and looks great. I can see why people love them! It drew a lot of admiring glances too.

Anyone catch the glimpse of the 718 Boxster S on the new Grand Tour leaderboard last night? smile

Close to a second quicker than either the M5 and M3, and ~3 seconds quicker than the featured M2.

718 S package continues to prove to be one heck of a quick car.

My 997 GTS was in for the MOT yesterday and was given a basic 718 manual as a loaner. Very, very impressed. The previous Caymans I've been given haven't done much for me at all, but I loved every minute of the 718. I thought the engine was immense, plenty of grunt and far more usable than my GTS. Ok, not got the same kick under full acceleration, but I have to back off after 5 seconds whereas I could keep the foot planted in the 718.

I love my 997 and not much I'd consider changing to, but the 718 would certainly be a contender if I could fit my golf clubs in. I know some of the 'purists' are making noise about the engine, but I'd take a 718 over any other Cayman I've ever driven all day. Was disappointed giving it back to be honest. Congrats to the owners out there, great car.
