I had a 987.1 Boxster S for 5 years (it was 10yrs old when I sold) and whilst I had it I test drove a 981 GTS. It was good, but I didn't think WOW this is amazing. And maybe that's to do with the way I drive, I don't rev the car all the time to get that 'exceptional feeling', I just don't drive like every day - who does? I'm sure many do!
But then I got in a 718 S for an extended test drive. And that was WOW - immediately, the torque and power are just there, which suited MY driving style. I like the grunt, and I like the ability to rev it out when I want to, which is what the 718 can do. I ignore the detractors because it is all about personal preference - and that's why I like this:
Wednesday's Words: Purist Bull$hit and the Porsche 718 Cayman S
I get my 718GTS at 10am on 1st March - happy days

Shall we start a bit of a chain of designs? Would be cool to see a load in one place.
Anyone who has already got there 718 or anyone that is waiting to collect there's in the coming months, please add your Porsche code or spec and maybe a little blurb of why you went with what you did?

This was mine and had it since Sept last year. Love it every time I drive it, or even wash it so how sad is that.

Test drove a few and did without a few things like PASM, Chrono etc as won’t track it and it’s fine without.
Happy to debate.

Nice. Not sure I would have ticked the the sporty extras at a grand a pop if I’d not gone for the GTS either.
My build here. Due 22/03/18.

Gone a bit over board with the interior design. Ended up going with the matching crayon interior. Then had to select the Porsche logos embossed in the leather as extra where as you get the GTS as standard on the headrest otherwise. Bit of a shame to lose that. Removed all Alcantara as well (not sure many people will agree with that choice lol)
Love the crayon and black accents though

Bought almost exactly a year ago.
Only 5k miles on the clock, and I've loved every minute of it.
Best moments in the car, and in fact best motoring experience ever, was where that 2nd photo above was taken, a road trip to the south of France with a buddy of mine. Took a day to go through the Parc national des Cévennes; glorious empty mountain passes, sweeping high speed bends, great inclines and declines.
Unfortunately trading it in in 4 weeks time for a new C63 AMG Coupé. Having only two seats is too limiting, my other half doesn't drive, so when friends or family come to visit, we can't go anywhere in the car, which is pretty restrictive. Be nice to get behind a 4l Bi-turbo V8 brute for sure, but I will miss the poise and elegance of the 718 Cayman.

Have this week gotten a trade-in price from the Mercedes dealership. They've come in a tiny bit higher than WBAC.Loss is just over 30% - low 40s for a low 60s car new.
My next step is to phone the Porsche dealership where I bought the Cayman (main Porsche dealer, owned by Porsche, in London) to see if they'll take it off my hands. Will ring them in the next week or so.

2.0 PDK PASM Chrono, extended leather crayon black, graphite blue, 18 way seats, adaptive cruise, steering plus, bose, multi wheel heated etc etc
We love it. Looks stunning. Nearly had a year. Not driven enough but handling sublime power enough to get back moving. But real luxury too. Ride is amazing.
Was detailed by @F1wax to tidy up minor defects and looks even more incredible

I wonder what most consider to be reasonable depreciation for a 1 year old 718 with £5k miles.Loss is just over 30% - low 40s for a low 60s car new.

Personally, I am unpleasantly surprised at a 30% loss, especially given OPC nearly new prices.
Perhaps this question should be asked in a 718 Negative Vibes Thread???

I get the dealers have got to make their margin but considering other 1 year 718 S' are going for low to mid 50's with similar or more miles than yours all I can assume is that you've been a bit unlucky with your offers. The full retail price for a second hand car, 1 year old with low miles, at 50-55k, assuming the car is around 60k new gives a depreciation of 10-15%. Seems more about right to me...?

Ouch. 30% / £20k is a chunk of first year depreciation. Tim are you sure you really want that AMG ? If it were me, I think I'd probably just buy a Punto (or similar) to cart passengers around or get them a cab while you take the 718 .
Looks like a great spec BTW, but I wonder if the high depreciation is at all related to the option spend, as I guess on a lot of those you don't always get your money back . Plugging a relatively POV base spec (i.e. mine) into WBAC seems to result in a much smaller first year loss (e.g. around 12% rather than 30) .

When you sell you don't get full retail price though do you? You get trade or private sale price which in this case is £10k lower. From what I've read, that's not massively out of line from OPC figures given they have to add a warranty, breakdown cover, perform any servicing or remedial work etc.Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
