All total tosh I was sucked into before. smile

Can you not remember the Lotus you had? The lotus cars ride on very supple suspension thanks to the low kerb weight. The Caymans are great all rounders but against Lotus cars I think we know which is a proper sports car wink

A car that clearly divides opinion!

With regards to the PDK gear box in the CR isn't this a Gen 2 PDK or does that come on later cars and therefore not on any CR's?

I've sold my 340 today and bought a Cooper S so the hunt for a CR has stepped up!

All gen 2 987s have pdk S or R the box is the same in both but not in pre 2008 S cars (which you don't want anyway!)

Ofcourse there is gen 1 PDK. 1st generation PDK as in all 987.2 cars
The 981 had gen 2 PDK and it leagues better, go try it.

You don't get the R concept that's fine.

My lotus was over damped like all lotus and was bouncy as hell, I fitted Ohlins to mine and many people fit Nitrons.
You don't get any one swapping out the R shocks. :-)

It's the best thing about how the car drives.

The CR is a firm ride but not to harsh for the road in fact it's perfect especially on road trips, no where near as hard to drive as 996 GT3 and probably quicker on b roads as the GT3 is very skittish unless it's super smooth which is not often in the UK GT3s are fantastic more suited to track.
A CR is a totally different car to an CS trust me I had a CS Sport limited edition although a good car the CR is just better all round.
Low milers in certain specs are slowly climbing in value.
Let's say manual box, buckets, spyder light weight wheels,pse,chrono,A/C are the top of the list for the enthusiast.
The CR is a outstanding road car at a sensible price in the Porsche world what else can you get for 45/50k obviously higher milers are the lower end price wise.
All only my opinion as I have owned driven many Porsches including the above been mentioned on here.
You need to spend time in a CR to really appreciate it the feed back is amazing.
They are all good cars just prefer the CR myself.

Thanks Tracy, that's good to hear. I'm looking for one as a fun weekend summer car so I think the CR is just what I'm looking for. I think the key spec items for me are buckets, spyder wheels, climate and pse. I'm happy to compromise on manual or PDK. I like most of the colours so not too fussy on that front. My preference would be to buy privately from another enthusiast with OPC warranty so I'm keenly keeping my eye out on the classifieds now!

Perfect weekender and touring fun drivers car.
We all have different ideas and opinions but you won't loose money on a good low mileage speced CR and enjoy it to boot.
Good luck with your search.

They say the search is the exciting part so let's hope so. I'm certainly in no rush and will bide my time but hope to get something in the next few months. If anyone knows of any good cars please let me know (assume this is allowed on the forum.)

I bought the PDK, also having a leg injury and changing gear once I swapped to an auto I was not going back.
I am sure manual drivers love the driver experience, but PDK is fine for me. put it in sports plus mode and it's a rocket, only changing gear at just under 8000 revs, i hardly use this mode it as its ferocious and the sipped limit flashes by.

Some will swear by mainual and sport exhaust. Others chrono, buckets, PCM say nav, air con.
To me I think the biggest price killer at the moment is mileage and many will have had their 4 year major service recently. so check that, as there are a few extra items above the service which also need doing if you want the service book complete.

Thanks Richard, what are the extra items that need doing at the 4 year service?

Agree about mileage as all cars lower is more money.
Think extra every 4th year is Air filter and P!ugs.
Every 2 years oil & filter brake fluid pollen filter
Gearbox its what you prefer or need just that a manual is more involving.
Both in limited numbers in the UK think it's circa a 50/50 split roughly.

I was quite surprised this year when the OPC kindly let me know that my car, after 15,000 (as it was in May) miles, needed a major service. Then proceeded to stretch the opening of my wallet rather widely to extract all the contents. Still the weight saving from this fits with the ethos of the car I suppose.. so at least there's some parity there.

In my mind a major service should involve a little bit more than what Porsche qualify it as... maybe some pro-active gasket replacements, chains/belts etc, but seems its just a few more oils and filters than the usual annual interval. Nevertheless, Im through that now.

Good luck on your search

A major inc plugs, and most people have a brake fluid and AC service as well.

Belts are done at 6 years old.

Do people think a CR will be in less demand as we approach winter and conversely in more demand in spring and summer months?

Rs are a bit niche at the best of times so doubt that the season will affect much. They seldom sell quickly unless they are priced exactly right but you might get a bit more thinking time. Prices are pretty easy to figure if you are looking for a grail car ie buckets chrono PSE. The tricky things to price into Cayman Rs are sports seats and higher mileage.

Yes have noticed that they do seem to hang around quite a while. I've been actively searching for about 4 weeks and so far I think the only ones that have gone are the one at OPC Aberdeen and the one in Sterlingshire.
Not willing to compromise on my personal essential spec (buckets, spyders, climate and PSE) and I want low mileage. I plan to keep for the long term and therefore I'd rather wait 6 months than get something which isn't quite right. Don't mind manual or PDK. Favourite colour is speed yellow but that I think is never going to happen (there is one available at the moment but no climate)
