Contacted dealer on Thursday for update on Cayman S order it now turns out car due in to dealer next week. Was advised by salesman on lockdown that 'nothing happens until delivery in first week of December and dates only vary by a couple of days'. Although this is good news I wonder why salesman is so poor at communicating as car must have been in production and in transit to U.K. Last week and they can access this information from the factory. Is this lack of communication normal or is it down to the sales guy?

For information the deposit was paid May 3rd, lock down September 30th.

Communication from my OPC was about the same. After my spec lock date the only updates I got were when I phoned to ask.

Supply issue is disappointing. I suspect that some of it has to do with strength of the pound.. if you compare U.K. Prices against the rest of Europe and US, the cars are significantly cheaper here based on current exchange rates.

I'm keen on the base model, however, if I chose a 981 instead, I'd need an S model to gain similar performance and a lightly used 981 S is more expensive than a brand new 718! Guess I'll have to wait - during which I expect we'll see price rises of 10%

Spoke to Porsche Centre Guildford this morning. Worth talking to them if anyone wants a base model without the wait. Spec wasn't for me, and discount not huge, but you can see their point - won't be many available for immediate delivery.

Had a disaster ordering my Cayman2.0

Put the deposit down mid June , they got a small allocation for 2016 and after that was used/allocated was still way down the list . Left it a while and asked another centre and they said they could have delivered the car by November or December , Ive asked several more centres who have said similar and ive read on here people ordering in september and still getting the car before year end! Im furious as I have now been told i wont get the car till way after April ( when the tax goes up ) and will also suffer the price increases due ? January ?? Is January the usual price increase month ? plus no car for months extra !! Ive now resorted to putting a deposit with another dealer in October who hopes to get my car by March but say 100% they will verbally , but wont in writing

The ordering system is crazy, They should take the orders centrally and fullfil them on first come first served really. Because ive now discovered Ive placed my order ( local centre) unfortunately with one that has a large order book but is about the only one it seems that wont get me a car by december having received my deposit in June

anyone else had this problem ?

The cynics amongst us would say Porsche have advertised a car with no intention
of supply until after any price rise. They have even taken a deposit off us without
any firm order!!
Its supply and demand or rather the demand for the Cayman.
I have been waiting 6 months with no guarantee when car is to arrive although will be before
1st April although which year is any ones guess!!
I was originally told it would be here before the end of November!
It is souring what should be a special delivery to customers of their car!!!

Is it widely anticipated that there will be price increases? I've not seen anything but this is the first time I've dealt with Porsche so not sure if this is a regular thing or just a knock on effect of the currency rate

I was told by local opc that prices will probably rise in January (& that was in July when I ordered), so decided not to go for "S" , partly cost to absorb increase & secondly I thought the std 718 was plenty quick enough for my needs

I was told March and I ordered early Nov for an S.

I was told when I changed from a base to an S that this would improve my delivery as I went from 10 in the queue for a base to 4th for an S. I'm suspecting from reading this however that it's not quite as straight forward as that and they don't really know

Well name a dealer that will give me a discount... My deposit is refundable and I don't want delivery until Jan.

I will phone named dealer first thing in the morning!
Any discounts will probably be cancelled out by a January price rise. blah

Had a long conversation with my opc yesterday. They don't anticipate a price rise in January.

However they do expect one early in the new year.

I reckon that Porsche management aren't stupid as they know money probably not an issue if you can afford a new Porsche & with new 718 being popular they know that you'll probably wait for delivery ..........makes the brand a bit special !

Reason I am buying : I think it's the best looking, best handling sports car on the market for the money & will be well worth the 8 month wait.................

It is worth the wait, I took delivery 3.5 weeks ago having ordered in May. Exactly as you say best handling and best looking. Quality seems excellent. Noise is interesting although not what you would call smooth or refined

Good news for me ..........chased opc yesterday & told my spec lockdown is 10th Jan 2017 with build scheduled 14th February
UK delivery end of Feb, will be registered in March & should pick up car 1st week march.

Do I go for personal plate with 66 on it, or just have a 17 allocated plate? ...........will it make any difference to the resale price ?

Much the same as me then. Jan build, mid-Feb delivery.

Difference in price? Well i'm holding off a week or two till 1st March registration to get the 17 plate. I'm given to understand it will make a marginal difference in residual - newer plate gives impression of newer car - so 2nd hand punters would pay a little more for a 17 over a 66 all else being the same. I figured a wait of a week or two is probably worth it.

At OPC in Aberdeen today my lockdown date is 20th December can't remember exact build date but think built by 10/02/17 and delivery date 28/02/17 but salesman said it would before that date and I would have it on 1st March ? oh and all the delays were down to them moving factory for building Caymans ?

Kinda chimes with what my OPC said. Said they were re-tooling the factory and that was causing the delays.

He seemed confident that more build slots would open up for Feb/March shortly and it was down to Porsche being overly cautious on builds.

Hi Scott,

Collected my 718 last Saturday from the same OPC and was told the same story re: The delays were down to moving production to Stuttgart.

Hi there

Could you tell me when you put your deposit down ? And did your 718 come earlier than
they had quoted to you ? Cheers

Hi my spec lock down was 20th November 2016 with build date 15th December 2016, delivery to OPC
15th January 2017.
No indication it would be sooner although other posts on here indicate delivery to OPC could well be sooner.
My piggy bank is beginning to look very worried
