Manual says to keep below 4k revs for the first 3,000km (or 1,864 miles). Try to avoid short trips. And don't track the from what the car is actually doing

Yeh I only do around 4k miles a year. coffee

2k really is very minimal.

OPC called this afternoon so I asked their advice on run-in. They said they usually tell their new car buyers to take it easy and keep revs down till 1,500 miles.

Got a long road trip in the 718CS in 5 weeks time to Nîmes in the south of France with a buddy of mine.

Hoping to do lots of miles before then, so may reach that sort of mileage during the road trip.

Got over 200 miles on the clock already in just a couple of days. smile

Picked up Monday, the weather was rubbish so only got one admissible picture really...will give it a good clean at the weekend and hopefully get more.

Thoughts so far.

718 2.0
What an engine, sounds nothing like any other 4 cylinder I have had, and so much punch. Hard work staying in the run-in revs (read impossible) but at least making an effort. You get a lot of fun out of the bit between 3K and 4-4.5K revs which speaks volumes for the fun factor of this engine - you don't have to thrash it at all to get a smile on your face. It really sounds fantastic when under load and the low end torque is amazing. I can only imagine losing my license with a 718S - I deliberately avoided testing one as I thought it best to not know but I don't have an iota of regret of going base. I understand and agree to some extent with 981 viewpoint, but this engine is not trying to be a flat 6, and that is where Porsche have got this absolutely right IMO - it's unique, it's fun, it's angry, it' s ridiculously good.

GT Silver
This is no ordinary silver, I was worried it would be TBH as collection got closer, but what a colour. Completely different look in different weather/lighting and just makes the car look classy and rock solid. One thing is for sure, you can't capture this silver in a photo - need to see it in the flesh, and under varied lighting (showroom not helpful) to appreciate it.

20" Carrera S in Satin Black
Love them. Perfect compliment for the GT Silver to bring a bit of aggression to the look. I was hoping it would be close to the plastic on the air intakes/underside of the mirrors and its not far off at all, even as the car gets dirtier with road grime the two colours look matched up nicely.

Model Designation in Black
Not a fan of chrome and trying to keep the black/silver theme alive - looks great IMO, probably one where it's a personal choice that worked well and not for everyone but for me, total rip-off, but great.

PASM
Looks wise, does the job in terms of dropping the car slightly without causing a panic attack at each speed bump. In a practical sense, unbelievably smooth ride considering on 20s. Not really used the sport chassis and doubt I will - standard mode is proving silky smooth ride despite rubbish local roads. Worth every penny it cost - couldn't test it as OPC only had standard suspension so ordered blind - standard was perfectly fine, but this is really quite brilliant. Combined with the incredble chassis, it makes for a truly amazing driving experience.

PSE in Black
Effectively 4 modes where it behaves differently from quiet and discrete (ish) to roar. Provides for variety on a journey or between journeys and in my view sounds great. Again had to order unheard. Undoubtedly a nice to have option - very glad I specced it though and the black tips looks great on my black/silver theme.

64L tank
Good move, looks like 320 miles a tank at the moment

PDK
Auto mode, excellent - seamless, fast shifts (previous BMW 330D 8AT and wife's Mk7 Golf GTI DSG). Paddle shifters - fantastic engineering (metal, not cheapo plastic), responsive and have found myself using them a hell of a lot more than in the other cars where its either boredom (BMW) or hooning (Golf). I feel encouraged to use the PDK when driving and that's something I like - getting back a little bit toward the control/flexibility of manual (which I do miss), without compromising on ease of driving in traffic (essential for me).

GT sport steering Wheel
Rock solid build, great feel, looks great and a perfect size.

Standard 2 way seats and black interior
Would love to have been able to stretch to full leather but refused to pay £1K for partial when I like alcantara anyway. This is a good quality interior. Dash and door materials are very high quality and it doesn't feel low rent at all. Seats are comfy, plenty adjustable and a tiny thing but prefer the black seat backs versus the silver on the sports seats plus. Next time, I can imagine I might stretch to upgrade to add to the sense of occasion, but its definitely not essential for me.

Storage Compartment w/ Alcantara Porsche crest
Really happy with this one, extends the alcantara theme of the freebie seats, breaks up the flow of materials with alcantara in the console. I wish they allowed more alcantara, and speccing again, would probably have gone for the PDK shifter and wheel in alcantara too - can always retro it I suppose as its on tequipment.

Smoking Package
No brainer to hide the cubby hole. The ashtray bit is however tiny, I can't fit a small gate remote in it - its small change if its not ash.

Cruise control
Have had MFSW for cruise on the last 3 or 4 cars. Back to a stalk - much better in my view - more accessible, less fiddly overall and easier to use.

Climate/Search Heating/Auto Wipers/Parking Sensors
Should be standard, all absolutely fine and work well.

Standard Speaker System
Coming from Harmann Kardon in the BMW (amazing IMO) I was expecting a big step down. Fact is the cabin is tiny, the speakers do a great job and the bass levels are good considering. I'm sure Bose and Burmester are fantastic upgrades but I'm happy to have saved the cash as I was pleasantly surprised by the quality.

DAB/Connect
Obviously standard from June builds, but I optioned former as it should be standard, and the latter as I wanted to be able to use Apple Maps ad hoc and not put a ton of money into nav which whilst good, isn't going to be used much in my case. Carplay works really well - also the thing your phone sits on to boost signal seems to actually be quite amazing - areas on my commute where I always drop out or at best get 1 bar GPRS I am driving through now with 3-4 bar 4G.

The purchase process was interesting at times, but I can't fault my OPC - first class from the warm (non-Audi) welcome when walking in the showroom for the first time, through all of the joys we are suffering on delays, to the extremely slick handover experience.

Couldn't be happier with my purchase, it puts a smile on my face every time I look at it never mind when I get in fire it up and take it for a blast, that's an ear to ear grin. What a car.

stamp78... beautiful car. I was just at the dealership a few days ago and kept coming back to GT Silver myself. Do you mind me asking... what did you eventually decide re. headlights? I've some time before I lock down spec, but salesman suggesting uprated lights important (a lot of dark twisty roads where I live). I wonder, though, if the base lights are already better than what I'm used to? Congrats on the car...

Looking good ... I'm pretty much decided on GT Silver as well. I wanted something different from my usual Grey, Silver or Black cars but in the end every GT Silver I've seen has looked great.

I'd be interested to see the model designation in black ... it's something I was considering but I've not seen a car with it yet. Could you post a picture please?

Thanks IPK ... great looking car, very shiny. Looks like the platinum carrera S alloys? Those are my choice as well.

I'm particularly interested to see it on the 718 as I think the Porsche script remains silver just the model designation is black. Just don't know whether it will look good or whether it is better to have both in silver.

I couldn't risk a slip in build as I was so close to the VED changes they could have inadvertently been a £2.5K option. The standard lights are great, I commute through a rural area and they are perfectly fine - they seem brighter than my outgoing BMW, they aren't however as good as my wife's Golf which has the VW equivalent and they are truly impressive on country roads/moors where random animals appear without warning.

Would I have gone PDLS had there been a guarantee on no risk of delay, probably not now that I have seen and used the standards in the flesh. My original need was around driving in Europe, apparently the standards need no adjustment as they throw a flat beam when dipped.

Sorry about the pic quality just snapped in the rain on the way into the house:

FWIW I like the inverse of the chrome Porsche on black that it gives. As I said though, not for everyone but one little change that I really like and which makes mine a little more individual.

Wow wow wow
Is that agate with white seats and satin wheels
Looks fantastic
I'm having night blue white seats and turbo wheels with the front , side , grills and boot umnderneath in night blue but I'm looking at your car and it all blends beautifully ... The wheels and colour . Lucky devil .... Mine is stuck in production since 26/2 so will be done for the extra tax which is really annoying . U.K. can't get any more info on my build at all.... Very strange and annoying

Thx guys, side intakes are body colour & interior is crayon/black leather.

This interior is fantastic in midnight blue car, as one of that combo is about 1.5 miles away from me.
