981 standard halogen headlamps
Discussion
Just a note for those looking at used...
I've driven a couple of times at night recently, one having been diverted off the M42 and having to run cross country in the pitch black of darkness. I have to say the standard lights are very good. My previous three cars (TTS; E Class; E46) all had Xenons but apart from the lack of white light the spread and illuminating quality of the 981 halogens is every bit as good as those.
It had me thinking it must be because Porsche wouldn't put sub-standard lighting in a Porsche!? Also, I'd heard yellow light is better picked up by the eye.
Of course I've not compared to 981 Xenons side by side, and those that have may say they're better, as one would expect. All I'm saying is that compared to my recent experience with Xenons by other manufacturers, the Porsche halogens are very good.

depends what you compare with
Porsche basic xenons are only 25 watts, you pay for the 35watt systems but the cars are still advertised with having xenons all be it the low powered ones.
Real Xenons which you PAY FOR are, ready for the pun, "night and day" better over Porsche halogen lights.
and while the 35watt may look the same brightness in the centre of the beam of the 25watt, the spread is far far wider and also you get the moving lights which help on bends.
