The OP, like myself who is just an ex-RAC competition license holder, may not have the superb driving skills you exhibit.

hi first let me thank you all for your opinions .I looked at TT RS yesterday and you can get child's car seat in the back . I was well impressed with the trim and equipment levels of theses cars much better than the Porsche in my opinion .No test drive as yet .looking forward to Monday when I get to drive the Porsche .I am in need of a daily driver and the fact I can carry my Granddaughter if needed is important .I have yet to drive the TT RS but think I will be blown away with the pace of it .I will let you know what happens cheers all

I have a single figure golf handicap ( well 2 single figures )...does that carry any sway?

Hmmm... I think he's saying that all PH members have, or have had, a motorsports competition license of some sort, not golf or fishing or dog.

No doubt he'll be correct. I mean who would own a car and NOT have a competition license!? Eh?

I'm aware of quite a few comp licence holders with lots of racing experience that have poor driving knowledge and technique. Some of them winning championships. It is not a good guide to skill level. Just a guide to access.

Although I'm sure that doesn't apply to anyone in this thread. smile

Interesting to read all the differing opinions about which is the better car, always get a lot of Audi haters on Pistonheads.
Well I own both of these cars, in fact 2 x TTRS, one is manual the other s-tronic and also a Cayman 981S PDK.
The TTRS is an amazingly practical all weather car, loads of space in the boot with the seats folded down, fast and reliable and fairly inexpensive to run. The handling can also be massively improved with a few inexpensive mods.I have had so much fun in these cars.
The Cayman is a proper sports car and great great fun to drive, even though slower than the TTRS. Looks superb too. Can be a bit twitchy in the wet. Everything is more expensive with them although mine seems reliable so far.
If I could only have one it would have to be the TTRS because its so all round capable.

Interesting read and I've never looked at the Ttrs but new it's fast
I'm now anti turbo as we need to make hay while the sun is out with NA cars

Having said that over taking capability and extra practicality I'm sure the ttrs is a stinking car

Just buy on what you value most i.e. Practicality or use you will get

nice, but 17 mpg and new rear tyres every 6k pisses you off, also £500 to tax it.
I kept mine 2 months (still had to buy rear tyres !!! ) ! over rated car with a great engine though.

I ran a TTRS for 2 years, no issues and just the fastest car I have owned A to B, good MPG, cheap tax, win win, no bad bits imo.
yes one wished for more feel again move people don't want feel, I did fancy a change after 2 years, but the performance keeps you interested for a couple of years.

Apart from large amounts of the general public thinking you're a complete knob for driving an Audi obviously.

Oh dear... I spend my money on what I want to drive and never considered what anyone else is going to think. fk what other people think. Anyway, the vast amount of general public are just not interested in what people are driving to the point of having an actual opinion... PHers don't count obviously wink

We have a TTS and a 987 Boxster currently. We had a Cayman previously but like having a convertible so went for another Boxster. The TTS has been remapped and is a fast and capable car but its not something I want to take out for a drive on any given Sunday. Granted its a great car for racking miles up and can be punted from A2B at some pace but it definitely feels a bit ordinary. The 987 always feels special with that lovely flat six wailing and the handling really is just more enjoyable. One thing no one has mentioned is the brakes - the Audi's brakes are horribly over servoed and lack feel - night and day to the Porsches excellent stoppers. You can brake a lot later in the Porsche and have the confidence to do so.
We do love the TT but its just not as special. Maybe the RS is a completely different beast to the TTS but I suspect not.

The ttrs is on another level, huge brakes and one of today's best engines.
I also had a TTS and the RS performance is off the charts vs a TTS.

The sounds is also a winner , maybe even better than a flat six.

Well done for not getting a TT convertible.

Unless your name is Noddy of course?

I have ttrs brakes on my car (albeit with tts discs because ttrs ones arent suitable for track use) and theyre excellent.

If the brakes are an issue then the ttrs ones are night and day smile

That sounds familiar re the TTS. The MK2 RS IMO didn't add much above the TTS except the engine and noise where it mattered to me. I have a sneaky feeling re the new TTS/RS... I suspect the difference between the 2 will be more defined, the RS a clear step up from the TTS... there needs to be with it coming in at £52k. Still not a car for me though.
