+1 - stunning and love seeing all those colours together!

I am not surprised the Spyder holds its own in that collection either. They really are such fun cars and just get better and better as the miles go on....
Yep, I genuinely believe they are the best value car of the modern bunch - IMHO it wins the smiles per £ by a county twisty road open top mile smile (see what I did there)

You have mates ?? hehe

Seriously, I think we all get the picture of how you view these new cars against some of the older ones, and I respect your views.

From my side I've had a 987.2 Spyder which I think is a great car, but I find the new one more 'fun' to drive. It sounds better, is faster, handles better IMO, and generally I just have a bigger smile on my face in it.
The power to weight ratios, gearing, torque/power graphs etc etc don't really seem to affect my fun in the scheme of things.
Are my findings and views on this any less true or valid than yours ??

PS _ I'm in the keep it camp driving
I respect all views about cars people own, and if you like the car you own better that is all that matters, I just laugh at people trying to back up why they bought a car due to some power to weight advantage or a track time, it's funny to read.

I wish people would say "I bought it because I like it" that's enough for me and I cannot come back on that can I lol ? , I just debate a lot of bullst comments to nutters quoting meaningless figures because I am a forum nutter also :-)

sound is fixable on any car and does seem a BIG want on todays forums, funny how GT3 owners never moaned about the 997 sounds which is quiter over the new cars. And one poster even wants the crazy loud GT4 to be louder in town !!! I find it crazy what people are after though town !

faster, well see my posts it's no faster really :-) faster in your mind and down the pub, but that's about it.

Handles better ! well again did you go over the handling limit of your old car all the time ! all new cars handle so well it's a moot point.

again you never hear about people owning a 964 moan about handling and the 987.2 Spyder would leave one for dead ! ALL NEW CARS handle.

this is the key line
"I just have a bigger smile on my face in it"
and that's what I love to read, you love the car it makes you smile more, perfect ;-)

the littlest thing can either make or break a car for each person on a personal level , and hence why again the OP cannot fall in love with his.

I recently picked up a low miles, standard S1 Elise. I'd forgotten how good they are. If you want 'fun under 100mph' they remain a tough package to beat as a drivers car. Compared to similar Porsche they are also very cheap. I'm enjoying mine now more than when I had one new in 1998.

As for I found when in Germany earlier this year with my 993, many Porsche only make sense at autobahn speeds where they wake up. I'd venture NO Porsche steers like an Elise. Granted I wouldn't want to drive much over 80miles in one go in the Lotus- the ride comfort and noise get weary, but they are immense fun on the type of roads we have in Britain. All the fast German stuff that people widely aspire to in the UK are frankly a bit numb until you are really pushing on. A nice chap at the Porsche Goodwood day last week, let me try his nicely tweaked E46 M3 on roads around Goodwood..nice car nice sound but 70mph is effortless and remote. There in lays the problem.

very true, I have done the Lotus thing twice and they are fun cars for sure ;-) if I did not own my 987.2 Spyder which I call my big Exige I would have a Lotus as my fun car, but I cannot part with my 987.2 Spyder to own one atm.

Well ............given the feedback ( ignoring the bits about my car is better than your car stuff) I have decided that I should reflect and keep it over the winter
I have no other car in mind + I am on the case with my dealer to have the next halo car so the more Porsche cars I own AND DON'T SELL the better my chances
That's the game I am told - so you get invited to buy the halo cars . That's fine but perhaps I play the game and hold the Spyder as a chip
Thanks for the feedback
I'll try and like it more in the hope the love flows !!
This really is a first world problem for which I apologise. Life could be a whole lot worse for sure
I consider myself lucky

Sounds like you have perspective, and keeping over the winter probably won't hurt. Still sounds like a sell to me, but selling in spring makes sense.

Meanwhile we can all let Porsche911R loop away in the background rolleyes

why do you want the next halo car ? and that means keeping a car now you don't like ?

just give your OPC your spyder to sell now, let them make the money and that will get you into the "next halo car" no point keeping it imo.

Seems like a good plan. I'am also (hoping) I am playing the same game with the OPC I bought the Spyder from. i have a great relationship with. i'am loving the Spyder & is a daily drive for me also (low miles). But interested in what the next gen GT4 will be. The sales guy at the OPC already joking "I'll put your name down then for the next GT4" lol. But eventually I have an Aston Vantage itch to itch - but probably some years away. And that will definitely be totally different to the GT4/Spyder driving experience.

G , the residuals will not alter between now and the spring (if anything they will be better in the spring) & as such it's a no brainer to keep for now - who knows spirited blasts on cold sunny mornings all wrapped up with the roof down , trees changing colour , lovely ! smile

Why not want the next halo car ?? It's the best pension planning I can think of !! Plus I just love my GT3 , so one assumes I'll love the next one even more
It's called boys and their toys ..............you get to my age and there's not much left !
And its no hardship to drive the Spyder - and my dealer has not responded to suggested sale so not interested one assumes
But but but I hesitate to sell to anyone else as I might get a black mark . Pathetic I know but thems the rules - play or get out . I choose to play
Not yet a criminal offence

Have had my Spyder for five months & OPC calls me every month. I'am sure to see if I have sold it lol or maybe ensure I'll give them first options to take it back. Yep, why not the next halo car. It was a no brainer to get the Spyder - three years of practically free motoring/zero depreciation. So, yep with you on that one & also hope to be in line for another halo car myself by playing the game.

I change cars way too often as eager to try as many as I can whilst in good health. One thing I have learnt though, is the moment you question keeping a car, just sell it. You've already mentally moved on and it doesn't matter how many people tell you to keep it, you will come back to the same feelings shortly.

Just my 2 pence worth wink

Dave - I would if I had something else in mind but I don't so no rush. My mood was forced by the offer of a £5000 premium
But that vanished when the deal was put together. Slightly misled but such is life

it's not about boys and their toys now though is it ? you don't like the car you own lol !

it's about getting a halo car which may or may not be better.

Rather a R8 v10 Plus with a NA v10 while you still can buy them, that's a toy, NOT a halo car !

or the 3 cars I own which ARE PURE TOYS !!! you are just waiting and forced to buy cars which make money ! sadly not toys any more.

If you want a toy buy a 997 GT3 ! or a Lotus or some thing fun !

As we have never met you have no idea about me so please don't tell me what I want, can't have, why I want it , etc etc

I am not telling you what to buy, I have no right, and I never have !, I was laughing at the "boys and their toys comment" and now I see a bit of aggression in the post!

You are not buying toys you are buying Halo cars which don't loose money, there are far better toys to own if you want a fun car over a car which makes money.

you admit you have not gelled with your current halo car but are keeping it to get the next halo car !
just be honest with yourself !

I am not knocking that buying model it's makes sense, and is free motoring, but lets not kid ourselves what is going on.

you did say to quote " best pension planning " after all !

but are now saying stupid comments like "It's have the next great experience of owning a piece of engineering triumph "

let not forget page 1 and the 1st post
"I just can't seem to love it"
