I have both a GT4 and 981 Spyder, both owned from new. And just last week I sold my Spyder back to Porsche after 7 months and 3k miles.

From behind the steering wheel, the GT4 is a better drive. It rewards more. The interior trim options of my GT4 make it a more special place to be. The 918LWBs are more comfortable than the GT3 folding buckets in the Spyder. The GT4 is more practical too.

The decision to sell was made one day when I went on a fast drive in perfect conditions. The roof was down. The sun shone. And the noises being made were perfect egging you to drive harder and faster. Before I knew it, I was charging around like a lunatic, pushing the Spyder faster than I was able to enjoy the sunshine, and thinking - I should have been driving the GT4 because it "would have been a better drive than the Spyder on these roads". And therein lies the problem with the Spyder... it eggs you on to drive quickly, but it doesn't reward like the GT4, and you actually miss the reason why it is topless.

So when I slowed down to enjoy the sun, I thought to myself - "why not just have a normal Boxster or more comfortable/special car to enjoy the sun?"

Spyder sold. Don't regret it. It was wonderful, but in the presence of alternatives, it lost.

So what more comfortable/special car will replace it to enjoy the sun?
