Hi Guys,

Your opinions please.

I’m just about to book my car into Porsche so they can retro fit a PSE system for me. Has anyone else done this? Also did you consider any other options as well i.e. Armytrix / Fabspeed / Borla etc?

It’s roughly costing me £2k to get it done – what’s your thoughts?

I know sports exhausts are not for everyone but as this car is my weekend car (for the moment) I figured that I’d try and get the most out of it in terms of experience and fun (if you know what I mean) so I thought why not!

Also, is it a fair assumption to think that if I were to go down the PSE route then at least warranty etc is all retained without any complications? I wouldn’t want any third parties potentially buggering up my new pride and joy!

Cheers,
Paul

I would go with the Porsche sports exhaust so you keep warranty and think it will sell on better when you decide to trade it have heard the Armytricks exhaust on YouTube a bit to hardcore imo but one mans roar is another's meow!!

I had the PSE retrofitted when I bought mine so have no idea what difference it made. But I was convinced I wanted one. Decided on the retrofit as the car I found had all the options I wanted except the PSE. The OPC did me a good deal on the car so that it didn't sting too much.

I love the sound. Although it does sound a little manufactured after you get used to it.

Do you think it's worth keeping the original once the new exhaust is fitted??

I'am having exhaust thoughts as well...I'd go for the P87-2 Carnewal GT in a heartbeat over the Porsche PSE but its the warranty issue that's concerning me, I've never seen a Carnewal modified exhaust does anyone know if the welds are in a different place to the original apart from the noise difference would an OPC spot the modification easily.

When I had the PSE fitted to my 981S I kept the original back boxes sans the sports tips which went onto the PSE with a view to selling them on as a donar for somebody who wanted a Carnewal conversion - eventually sold them on Ebay for not a lot of cash, about £150 (no bites on PH or other sites) and sure enough the guy was buying them for Carnewal.
As for the welds, I'm pretty certain that externally the Carnewal looks identical to stock BUT dont you think the OPC will notice when the engine starts?! My 987S2 had a Carnewal exhaust, its a nice piece of kit and more subtle sounding than the PSE plus a lot cheaper at about £500 but it does mean no Porsche warranty etc and also OPC's wont touch the car as a trade in (well they might if they have a replacament set of rear boxes to hand).
£2k sounds about right for a PSE, I paid £1800 for the 981S.

Hi Keith,

Thanks for the comment. Are you able to say where you got yours done? I might give whoever they are a call and try and save myself £200 for the effort (it all helps!).

Cheers,
Paul

Definitely call a few OPC's to get their best quote - also if you are planning on keeping yours serviced at the OPC you bought from make them aware of this.

I got this retro-fitted to my 981c as part of the deal I can PM you details, it definitely wasn't full price though.

It's an extravagant option but for a weekend car it just adds to the enjoyment, I rarely have it turned off and it brings a smile to your face every drive - the wife even commented that it was worth getting!

How you getting on with this purchase Paul? I'm in the same boat and have been researching prices. Would be useful to know who you've had good quotes from if you can PM me.
Best price i've found through OPC locally is ~£2350

Sorry for the slow response guys, I use Brooklands (Byfleet), 01932 341911, the best OPC that I have come across and they will discuss discounts without getting huffy hence the reduction that I had for the PSE (plus the same with servicing etc). As stated always worth getting a quote from elsewhere even Indies, Byfleet treat them seriously for all none warranty work.

Guys, the parts for PSE came to about £1500 when I had an Indie check it out nine months ago, this excludes the tips that I already had - the Indie quoted me around £300 for fitting so once Byfleet responded they matched the price - as it happens that was a good thing because the installation was problemetaic due to some Software version issues that croppe dup during the chhanges made for the sport PSE switch, they had the car for three days in total so the Macan loan car came in useful...they also found the rat infestation/damage which added to the work but again reasonably priced and well executed.

Just checking the OP has extensively driven the same model as his, with PSE fitted... and liked it?

I couldn't stand the booming/droning at around 2,000 rpm. I would use £2,000 toward a nice holiday instead?

Some like it, some don't, but DO try before you buy.

Ive never been plagued by booming on any cars fitted with PSE (981S, 987S, 997S, 991S)...my Cayman S with standard exhaust was however a real pain noise wise, had to wear ear plugs on Mways

Ah... you've never experienced it then. Gave me a headache the day I had a PSE courtesy 2.7 981 Boxster, and that was with its PSE turned off!

Motorway was the worst.

He was talking about a NON pse car needing earplugs !!

Anyhow I find both PSE and Non PSE have a tendancy to drone at certain revs/speed. Simple answer is to either speed up slow down or change gear.

PSE drone or not Does add enjotment to ownership of the car so if you can afford it, just do it.

I had it recently fitted (November) on my 981BS at Tonbridge Porsche, cost was just over £2k but well worth it. Having had the car since March I wish I'd done it straight away. There are quite a few negative posts about having it fitted with PDK but I've never experienced any droning as described but then I only use the car at weekends.

Excellent a positive review...would you say the sound has improved more as the exhaust has sooted up inside.
