...if it were a Ducati...

...or a Beetle.
You not bored about rattling on how bad the 982 sounds compared to your 981 it's really getting boring now !!

My experience of a 981 test drove 2.7 PDK with PSE and IMO noise was nice at redline but car was slow compared to my old Focus RS hense ordering 982 new school with turbo !!

Oh Ducati thumper sounds nothing like 982 if you really think that get you hearing aid looked at !!

Beetle omg lol

If your drink is a 500ml coke etc bottle it's fine smile Fits in the cup holder a treat and you just get your passenger to unscrew the top, pass to you, you drink, pass back, passenger puts top back on and replaces in holder, job jobbed!

New noise who really cares, It's like 1996 all over again air cooled vs water cooled .

Handling and performance are key

People who recently dropped £60k+ on a truly fantastic car with a great engine a year or two ago

Having picked up my 718 a fortnight ago and loving every single second driving it, including the "noise", I too feel pretty good about the choice I made to buy it.

Either way, I'm looking forward to 2-3 years at least of that, couldn't care less how many miles I do, whether I do some sort of damage to my eardrums or what it's worth at the end of that process - I'm going to enjoy it as much as possible to get maximum emotional value from it.

Spot on matey . I've had all sorts of porsche from air cooled turbos to GT3's to RS's to a GT4 but one thing that never changes, regardless of noise, is that porsche build amazing cars.

I'm wanting a Miami gts......

Well I personally think the 718 sounds really good. May not quite be as good as a 6 cylinder but I have been v impressed.

lol, good choice of words laugh

Jokes aside, don't get me wrong it is a great car, I have no issues with it, I just wouldn't want to swap my 981 for one just yet. The sound is something else that I'm not ready to give up.

My OPC actually sometimes gives you a bottle of fizzy water like that and leaves it in the bottle holder (I didn't realise you could hold a bottle in the driver's side drink holder AND close the main flap up - rather neat I thought)

A 550 passed me today. Sounded like a 718 buy louder. So maybe that's what Porsche were aiming at, modern performance with retro sound.

If you are talking about the Porsche then I cant comment, have not heard on e in person (They are rare).

If you are talking about the Ferarri 550 I would get your hearing checked. smile

I actually don't like either of those, but if I was forced I'd choose the first one.

They make it sound even more like a modified F4T, which isn't good IMHO.

Christ on a bicycle, if that's the best aftermarket exhaust people can do to make it sound sexy it's a sad state of affairs. For me, in these days of uber power cars, sooo much of the enjoyment I get from a sportscar is the sound it makes, and the 718 just falls so short on this count IMO

A little bored yes, but so long as people keep on posting threads about the 718 sound and posters keep on using words to describe the 718's exhaust such as "glorious" I'll keep on commenting, as you no doubt will too about people who keep on posting about the people posting about the people who keep on posting about the 718 sound.

And, if you read my post correctly, you'll see that I was saying a Ducati or a Beetle could, perhaps, have that accolade attributed to them if they made the sound a 718 does.

As always though, digital replication is never able to match reality.

I've not found a single youtube clip of a stock 718 that sounds much like it actually does. In fact I've not managed to find a single online clip that matches the sound of any car I've owned, either on youtube or other sites. Having decent hardware, software, amplification and speakers helps a little, but it is in the recording and digitisation thereof where most of the depth and quality of sound is lost.

So I doubt the clips here do much in the way of true representation of these aftermarket solutions

I would therefore be loath to consider any aftermarket exhaust setup before spending ample time actually in situ to really hear it.

Not that I myself would purchase any aftermarket exhaust for the 718 S with PSE, as I find the stock sound truly ...

A flat 4 can be an oh so sweet engine with a great sound as those that have driven an alfasud will doubtless attest. So what is the difference other than the obvious induction which I appreciate is a big difference. So I had a look at the firing order and sure enough its different to the beetle and I assume 718. Is this the secret to sorting the engine sound once an for all ?

I recently listened to the sound of M2 with MPE. It really sounds great with deeper/throatier tone and lots of crackles.

Is it because it has a 6 cylinders engine?

I think 718 sounds okay when the engine is idle, but it sounds a little weird to my ears when it is driven hard. Perhaps, i'm not used to it.
