GT4 - avoidance thread

Fresh from press duties for 18 months and now at OPC West London
RJ71 AYE
Sales manager is fully aware of mismatch and butchered bonnet nuts but is happy to market it as it is - am I wrong to think that's a bit crap?

They have had weeks to get that ex press car re painted and the porsche dealer still can’t get the colour to match nor can they be bothered to sort out basic body fixings.

If that’s what they think is acceptable god help other cars.

Check out the service history on the car too, it had a new clutch fitted at 4K miles.

Two ways of looking at it;

1/It’s the weak part of the transmission designed to fail/wear out so did its job.

2/It’s only one wear item out of many so how worn out are the rest of them considering I’d expect a clutch to last a minimum of 40k hard miles.

I’ve done thousands of miles on track and never had a clutch fail.

Not disagreeing with you, but:

Yes but with respect to not needing to replace your clutch, you've probably had some mechanical sympathy, what with it being your own car. If you were handed the keys to a GT4RS and advised do what you like with it for a few days/week/WHY, you'd perhaps treat it slightly differently, bearing in mind you would not have any concerns over something going wrong/future servicing/replacement of tyres, and a million other things.

I'd expect a bit better from a Porsche GT car but I guess it all depends how it's been driven. There's videos of someone repeatedly timing it 0-60 and it did a day at Brands Hatch with numerous drivers, I guess all it takes is one clumsy driver. I've never done a power slide like the one in the above pic, does that involve a degree of clutch abuse in a car like this with sticky tyres on a dry track?

I'm no expert, but it's likely to have lift-off or just turn in oversteer to get the rear sliding then you just use power and a nice dab of oppo!

Dont expect an opc to be shysters . Joe average coulda bought that sight unseen and driven off in that car. Still might , and that's of course what they are hoping for....

Maybe the way press cars get treated (abused) on camera is considered tame to avoid being black listed by the manufacturers. God knows what goes on with those same cars when the cameras aren't rolling...

Regardless of the issues someone will buy the car if it’s priced right. Given the overt bad press they’ll likely sell to an unsuspecting punter who is not active on here or YT before pushing it out to auction. Collecting Cars ?

Sales departments often by pass their own bodyshop and go for the cheapest option. Not saying that's the case here, but it could explain it.

I've not watched the whole video, but of what I have seen there was nothing else that would stop me buying that at the right price.
I'd want to see a rev check and good look at it on a ramp though. I'd also want to be sure the paint was only done for nothing more than chips and scratches.

You have little idea of how any car has been used in the past, especially with all the flipping that's been going on. If someone is only keeping a car for a month or two, I doubt they'll be caring much about the long term for the car.

You mean the blatant Saxton advertorial (you scratch my back on price and I'll scratch yours)? Talking as if he's a private punter trying to navigate the used market for the ideal private purchase? The 'test drive' charade equally transparent as glass.

It only took 7mins before bucket seat u-turn bullst bingo started to try and validate the purchase, then went on to say "if a GTI man were to buy a GT4, this would be the car" errrr, sorry to break it to you Andrew but I am a GTI man and that certainly isn't a car I'd buy. He then goes on to try to make the significant warning flag issues around the servicing and history seem minor, when in reality they aren't, they are baked into the value, and always will be.

The thing that really made me cringe was the following... "So this is basically as close to a brand new GT4 as you can get"

For sure, apart from the fact it's 3 years old, has a missed serviced schedule, has 1200 miles, which you said would be double by the time you got it home, the scuffed (and lifting) PPF, scuffed splitters, ...utterly laughable statement.

In short, a used car dealer has bought a very cheap basic(ish) GT4 from another dealer, even cheaper when it's all put through business to business, and the dealer moves on the white elephant they've had in stock for ages. Andrew, if you'd been genuine in the video purchase, what it actually is, and the reasons behind it, you'd have got less negativity from me, but come on, you know the score here.

He didn’t haggle very hard did he. I would have expected more than £2k off the asking price to cover the obvious issues.
