The Boxster Spyder has certainly moved on along way from my 987.

It is bound to be fantastic to drive and such a great experience own. I find some of the details a bit fussy and untidy though. I wish the extra air intakes could have been incorporated into the existing side intakes. I do like the softer styling approach on the original 987 that has gradually moved on with 981 and 718.

Bravo for the roof arrangement. Especially on an RS, the lightest possible format makes sense and differentiates the car even more. Makes it more special in my opinion.

The usual lazy ‘tent’, ‘faff’, ‘tricky’ comments come out again. A sub 60 second process putting either on or off really isn’t that tricky.

Wow, I just love it, there isn’t a convertible I would like more this side of a CGT which is way way out of reach for me. This includes Speedsters for me that I bet are spectacular to drive but look a bit out of proportion.

I loved my 987.2 Spyder, had it for five years.

Was the roof a faff? Well not really just a few seconds when you know what you’re doing and the new Spyder RS looks to have a very similar arrangement with fix to rail, pegs in the head restraints and wire arrangement it’s a lovely nod to the past.

I’ve got a near base 718 Boxster in Agate Grey as a DD which has a PDK and it’s the first PDK I have had and it’s a great. I think a Spyder RS would be almost sensory/ workload overload if I had to change gears on to of everything else going on.

I am going to the Grossglockner this summer in my old Mezger GT3 I can just imagine how spectacular this would be the year after....

So I've just watch the video and I'd like to know where the rest of the roof is?? Is the rear part of the roof missing along with the rear quarters or am I being a bit stupid? Probably the latter I hope.

There's a second piece a "weather deflector" or something, that gives you a rear window smile

Far to compromised for me.. just looking at that roof on the video drives me insane!

Will I'm sure be epic with the open top, sod getting caught in a shower.. reminds me of my Caterham 620R manual roof mech, at least the Spyder RS has Aircon as it'll be constantly on

I would love one and I live in the very rainy Isle of Man. My last 2 718 Spyders only rarely had their roofs up and I did 6000miles or so in both. I personally find the standard car much better to drive without the roof up as the wind noise and cabin noise are far less roof down. As long as I can make it secure when I park it up somewhere and it is watertight when it’s lashing down then it’s all good for me.
This is my perfect fun car driving

Fair play to porsche for producing this car.

Should have been produced years ago, cream of the crop.

Just looks ugly compared to the 718 Spyder, I had a 987 Spyder, a 981 and now 718 Spyder. Nothing would push me to have one, and I have turned the offer away, roof looks odd, styling looks too strained.

I agree it’s a bit try hard IMO.
The aero appendages were fine for 4RS as a track biased car.

I was hoping that Spyder RS might have been more restrained and more like the CGT or 918 Spyder.

The roof is compromised in order to deliver a similar sound stage as 4RS, and to be able to used the GT3 engine.

It’s not the car for me, I’ll take the other twin biggrin

Would probably spec the new grey also. Perfect balance between Black, GT Silver and Agate. Love it and would look classy

I would love one, go back to your dealer and say yes I'll give you a few grand over. wobble

I think it is the best Spyder since the 987 even shares the same roof design! I am going to see if I can get one but not holding my breath!

Interesting split opinion on the Spyder RS. Seems a fair few aren’t interested. Leaves me wondering what suspected demand levels will be like - any thoughts?

In 2015 folks knocked the single skin 'tent' roof on the 981 Spyder but it was a great piece of engineering and suited the car perfectly. And a mere £60k basic list including the standard bucket seats too!

Unsure about this RS Spyder I would undoubtedly take a GT4RS first.

The roof was knocked well before then with the 987 Spyder, the car was not loved sales were slow and 15%+ discounts could be had! And what a fantastic car even Walter Rohl has one.
So keep knocking the RS Spyder scare of the flippers/collectors (for financial gain) and perhaps real enthusiasts might get one!

This…

We can but live in hope. Suspect the Spyder RS will be an awesome drive - Boxster chassis with the full fat 500BHP GT3 motor - yes please, from me at least!

Like the GT4RS, with its short gearing and Cayster chassis and tyres, it'll be mad as a box of frogs. I reckon the vast majority of people would prefer a normal Spyder for regular use.

This is really an occasional high days and holidays car for warmer climates and unrestricted roads or tracks, isn't it?

Not even sure how long they will keep producing the RS, surely 18 months anyway, else why bother even building it in the first place?

When the original rumours of the 718 Spyder said it would have the GT3 engine, I told my local OPC I'd be interested in one. In the end it didn't have one, but was still interesting enough to buy. In theory I should be interested in this, but a sensibly optioned one in Switzerland is about £195k. For reference, at current exchange rates my Spyder cost £123k in April 2020 and sadly second values aren't above list like they are in the UK. If you can get one at list in the UK, you should be all over it!
