The majority of people seem to think it is worth having:

If I go ahead with the Aqua blue 981S I could get the warranty. It's about £2k for 3 years plus the cost of the 111-point check. My problem is that I'd then be dealing with having to use an OPC to service the car, along with silly advisories and clowning about buying unnecessarily expensive batteries, etc.

I think for a £25k car it will make more sense for me to use a respected independent.
Probably best.

I think the warranty is not a good idea, having looked into it and some good advice here. I am also a very long way from trusting OPCs. I have a friend who's about to finally get rid of a Porsche he bought new 2 years ago. The incompetence of the OPC he's dealt with has been genuinely shocking. Having to have two replacement engines in a 2022 car is not very impressive either. He's bought an M5 and I doubt he'll ever consider getting a Porsche ever again.
Its disappointing that Porsche dealers have gotten so bad.

I ordered some parts from one a few months ago and asked them to ship to me as its around 10 miles for me so 20 round trip. After waiting 6 weeks I called a couple of times and started chasing but didnt get anywhere, So I then went in to ask what's going on face to face. They told me the parts were shipped but with no tracking. So did they really ship and it just got lost I will never know. Who ships stuff nowadays of any value without tracking. They agreed to try again but this time with tracking. I now have the parts I bought. But a simple transaction didn't go well.

I see a lot of businesses now giving rubbish service. I think it started just after Covid. We all accepted it because Covid. But 2 or 3 years later whats their excuse? Its almost like these businesses have learnt now we will put up with poor service. They need to realise we gave them an excuse but the time for that has now passed.

Can’t really tar all OPC the same, I’ve had great service from mine, I just depends on the OPC and their attitude towards their customers.

I’ve ordered countless parts, as soon as they receive them
I get a text to collect.

Just my experience and I knows others differ.

So when you originally ordered the parts and you checked price and availability, what time scales did they quote you for the parts to arrive at the OPC 24hr, 48hr or backorder?

They said one needed to be ordered in and may take a week or 2. I cant remember exactly. But I gave them plenty of time before I started chasing. The car is still i pieces. i really need to get a wriggle on. I might post some pics of how sorry it is looking to shame me into getting it sorted sooner.

They said 1/2 weeks and after 6 weeks you noticed they hadn't turned up.

Imho, a warranty isn't essential on a 981 like anything they have some weaknesses but generally speaking they are solid.

It's cheap for a reason on the 981, if you have a decent specialist nearby then they will have you well covered.

Does the 981 have the same crossover coolant pipe issue as the 987?

No

I'm not sure why you need to condense a story into a sentence of around 10 words. Sometimes there is more to a story than people want to write out to save time.

After about 4 weeks I think I started chasing.

I emailed in.
No reply.
I called.
I spoke to reception.
She took a message.
No one called back.
I called again.
I spoke to reception again.
She tried to find someone from parts and kept me on hold.
She couldn't find anyone after about 5 or 10 minutes.
She took a message and said she would get someone to call me back.
The message was very detailed.
All my details.
Address, reg, parts bought etc.
No one ever called me back.
So then I decided to go into the dealer in person.

So I didn't just sit around till 6 weeks. I gave them some time then started chasing. My form of chasing escalated. They failed at almost every opportunity.

Yeah I'm not strictly sure the exact dates so all guesses. I did have a little rant above about bad service. So didn't want that to be summed up with .... you waited a while and then thought about doing something and that's bad service.

Known faults

Brake pedal bush - the early bush started to stick when it got hot. So on a hot day the brake pedal would stay down when you braked. No recall from Porsche but there is an upgraded or revised part. So you either paid for the replacement yourself, like I did, or claimed under warranty if you had it.

Interior fan or demister - these can stick and refuse to work, so no air into the car. Obviously if the windscreen is misting up you can't see where you're going. Again no recall from Porsche but for this no upgraded or revised part. You can free this up yourself if it happens to You.

Thanks.

The car was under Porsche warranty until mid-2019, so hopefully recalls will have been attended to.
