Have to say I own a 928 S4 and am very pleased with it to date. Is cheap to insure, fuel consumption is approx 21mpg, is a 2+2 so I can fit the wife and kids in the car plus all the shopping and buggies as necessary so is pretty tame compared to most supercars --- well that is until you boot the wife and kids out of the car and press the pedal to the metal, then it turns into a snarling wolf well capable of hitting nearly 170 mph - not that I have ever gone anywhere near that speed officer smile

You mentioned the possible purchase of a GTS rather than an S4, just be careful because this really is in supercar territory, along with genuine supercar prices for replacement parts. Might be worth your while contacting Paul Anderson in Stroud who is the 928 guru and can give you an honest opinion about the various incarnations of what is a fantastic car and what to look out for when viewing.

Take a read at the post on another pistonheads 928 thread: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Also, if you're keen on purchasing a 928 then visit http://www.928.org.uk which is a site dedicated to the Porsche 928 and has tons of tips and advice on ownership. You can even sign up for a mailshot at http://www.928.org.uk/928uk-mailing-list.html and receive a daily email containing questions and answers provided by owners.

This just about sums it up...

http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyI...

I've had my 1990 S4 since June and love it. Working my way around a few niggly electrical faults but nothing serious so far. If you can get over 21 mpg then your driving like Miss Daisy, around town mine does around 14mpg but did get 20 mpg on a 740 mile round trip 'op north.

As said previously sign up to http://www.928.org.uk/ a very friendly and knowledgeable bunch.

And the V8 sounds wonderful :-)

20mpg is pretty decent - a 500+ mile "light traffic" day in the Cayman S pdk & the computer showed 19.3mpg - and this is with 'stop/start/', fewer CC's and fewer cylinders. Cayman is probably bigger and heavier than a 928.

A 928 would have been a better buy if i didn't already have an old Porsche - they look _so_ small now - recall them looking h u g e when they were new - keep us posted!

Not just me driving around like 'grandma' but also the previous owner who logged every single trip and every single purchase over his 20,000 miles of ownership and still averaged 20.4 mpg. Must confess I'm not so methodical.

I have it on good authority that 928s and early S4 variants could be tweaked very easily to increase power and speed - at the expense of fuel economy. Perhaps yours might be running a bit rich.

As for the sensational V8 exhaust note, was the reason for buying one back in the 1990s, and it still sounds just as good today when compared to much more modern and more expensive supercars seen driving around today.

Nice car but hugely overpriced even if it is from an OPC. Would have though they'll be a few privately owned cars for at least £10,000 less in no worse condition.

Blimey, I guess if car condition is more important and price not so much of an issue.

Does look a very smart car though.

The mileage was 108,000 though so not in collectible territory by any stretch of the imagination.

I reckon if you called a few specialists for bids you'd struggle to get to five figures, certainly getting half way to that asking price would be a major challenge.

Let's hope the new owner keeps it a very long time, won't matter much then.

To anyone considering buying a Porsche 928 in the near future, there is a new series entitled 'Classic Car Rescue' starting tomorrow night (Monday 14th April) on Channel 5 at 8pm, with the first one hour episode featuring the restoration of a Porsche 928 after many years of water damage and neglect.

So don't forget to set your alarm clock or recorder for Monday 14th April 2014 on Channel 5 at 8pm, or one hour later at 9pm on Ch 5+1 (Sky channel 177).

If you miss tomorrow nights episode, then don't worry, because it's being shown again on Tuesday (15th April) afternoon at 12.15pm and also at 8pm on Channel 5+24 (Sky channel 175) and probably again on Channel 5+1, so no excuses for missing it smile

Not sure that I would enter the competition to win the featured car as there are several areas that would probably need to be looked at before a reliable car would be created. However, 343.2bhp does sound wonderful.

Very odd logic when at least £10K worth of pork is not worth owning for the cost of a £2 call. I would love the thing even if it did end up becoming a money pit, it is a 928 after all <ducks for cover>
