944 cabriolet opinions?

Well I decided against a Boxster for various reasons and have had my head swayed by the above, partly because they have (almost) 4 seats...so....anyone on here have real world ownership opinions and advice, anything to look for when buying?

Good buyer's guide, not seen that before.
I'd just add that the sills tend to go at the rear, not the front, and that something like a torque tube overhaul isn't a massive bill compared to other things!
The big danger with the 944 is that people mistake the cheap purchase price as it being a cheap car. It's arguably a better car than the 911s from the same period for a quarter of the price, but running/restoration costs are pretty similar.
I'd post on the PCGB or Tipec 944 forums. More specialised than PH, and some of the best cars sell there before being advertised.

The above advice is great. Sills are one thing to watch on any 944 with the front of the wings going (these are now becoming quite expensive) in addition to the rear of the sills (they tend to rust from behind first, with the rest following after.Cheers

I once drove a low mileage S2. Truth be told they are more fun than I bargained for. I was expecting them to be a scuttle shake ridden ride. Of course there is some shake present, but it is not too bad for its age (i.e over bumps and potholes). The package however works very well, and they do not look too shabby with the rood down
. Paul's advice is spot on with not falling for a cheap car. Many things on these can cost a small fortune, as can a number of small issues.Boxsters are a great car mind you, although I shall not lie when I say some areas of them scare me!
Mine is 25 yr old next week and I have owned her for 14 of that.
They are not the best sealed in the world, hood wise, but that means most are kept in garages and only used in summer months, so you tend to have lower miles on a cab now.
Mine has had pretty much nothing go wrong. The only repairs are a clutch, and a pressure regulator for fuel system. Nothing else has broken. It is even on its original exhaust and now has 105k miles on it. I did replace the good on it 6 or 7 years back, it is nice and weatherproof now.
They drive nice, go pretty well, will nudge 150 mph if required. There's a reason I've kept mine 14 years!

Found a 944 s2 on Autotrader that looks good, trouble is it's in West Yorkshire! A bit deja vu as my Chim came from Selby so could be returning that way again!!
