Indeed, why would you not want to buy an 80's homologation special and use it properly!?.. It's perfectly suited to that approach, unless you're a garage queen polisher. I prefer my classics used, with a dash of patina. Or is that my women, I forget!
Sorry I read this as list 1a... As to using the car in the way you all described, Porsche only produced 75 of those cars in RHD. No point in running a car on higher octane fuels unless it's mapped for them as I'm sure you all appreciate. The OP has talked about this car in investment terms, ergo, despite his very impressive garage, I presume he wants to preserve the investment. Yes, I know he'll use it with 'verve' but I also would expect him, given his history, to look after it with an eye on its future value. But of course I could be totally wrong and he might want to use it to race in the PCGB series, stripped out, boosted to 320bhp...

Like most Porsches, including my own 1981 model, the 924 Carrera GT has one of these on the inside of the filler cap.The OP has talked about this car in investment terms, ergo, despite his very impressive garage, I presume he wants to preserve the investment. Even Porsche themselves required a MINIMUM of 98 in this and many other of their contemporary cars.
Re your second point - yes, I see what you're saying there. I wasn't expecting him to race it (although I'd doff my damned cap to him if he did) but just use it with some gusto on road and perhaps track.
The CGT is also quite a good hillclimb car right out of the box. See here at Harewood: http://www.harewoodhill.com/gallery/galleryImage.a...

Sorry Ruby, but this is faux-knowledge. The 937 was intended to fun on four star at the very, very least, which was 98RON. Only a foolish owner would have used 4* in preference to 5*, which was 101RON, if they could find it..With regards to 'mapping': there is no mapping! They used CIS injection with a very crude DME controlling the ignition timing only.

I bow to your superior knowledge...and the fact that we're talking about leaded fuel here. So what does one run these on now in this age of unleaded fuels? I ran all but one of my 5 air cooled cars on 4 star and then 95 RON unleaded as per the wisdom imparted within PCGB at that time. Only the 964 RS and now my 996 come with factory stipulation to run 98 RON super unleaded. With regards to 'mapping': there is no mapping! They used CIS injection with a very crude DME controlling the ignition timing only.
I recall running my first 911, an SC, back in 1986 on Shell Gemini. I think that was claimed to be a notch above 4 star and I recall that it seemed to disagree with Vauxhall engines of thst period. But both my 3.2s ran happily on 95 RON unleaded.
