Cayenne S Diesel - Think I am about to pull the trigger

Moonlight B looks fantastic in the sun with the sportsdesign kit, privacy glass and 21" wheels. Do it!
Did it! Carmine Red car they had there looked fantastic but SWMBO wasn't so keen.....Had every intention of placing an order for a new Diesel S but they offered us a very good deal on an SE Hybrid which was specced to £93k which is an ex demo car..and in the Moonlight Blue with those black and cream seats.
The car will get used a lot for the school run which is 20 miles round trip or me taking it to the station which is maybe 10 miles round trip...in those circumstances the hybrid makes sense. If I was say doing 50 plus miles a day commuting it wouldn't. Its supposed to do a maximum of 23 miles on a charge (so maybe 15 on a cold winters day) but it charges in just over an hour with if an upgraded charger has been specified.
Congrats on a wise decision,i own a Cayenne e-hybrid which replaced my Cayenne V8 diesel s two years ago.I actually prefer the hybrid because the engine has a much wider powerband and instantanous throttle response compared to the diesel s which was all over by 3800revs and could be caught off boost. An added benefit is 0% road tax and other potentially huge tax perks.
It does about 15 miles on a full charge and charges the battery quickly when full on in sport mode and is a joy in the city sneaking up on innocent pedestrians in silent mode!.

Just another thought on that 'floaty' comment by the dealer - I always run mine one click down on the air suspension and it removes that completely. Handily, the car remembers the setting too, so I don't think I've ever run it at standard height.
It's great being able to set the 'sport' mode for steering, throttle response etc, but leave the suspension in 'comfort' mode if you're cracking on on less-than-perfect road surfaces too.
I did 900 miles in two days last week through all sorts of grotty weather and I can't think of a car I'd rather have been in!
That's a great tip for the air. Thanks. It's great being able to set the 'sport' mode for steering, throttle response etc, but leave the suspension in 'comfort' mode if you're cracking on on less-than-perfect road surfaces too.

I really do think it's a great looking car....although the practicalities of that interior might be interesting. The quality of interior is superb.....definite step up from my 997 GTS. 18 way seats are quite possibly the best seats I have ever sat in. I've always rated the Comfort Seats in my X5...not in the same class.
I was so set on getting the S Diesel but when we really looked at how we use the car five days a week the Hybrid might just be perfect for us. Probably not going to be so good when we load the car to the max for annual ski trips but we'll see.
Think I'll probably run it for a couple of years...depends on when the new Cayenne comes out I suppose.

Well done Cheib.
I've had my S Diesel for nearly 2 months and I'm loving it. This is my first SUV and despite initial concerns about lack of performance and agility, I haven't stopped grinning since.
Random fact - I've just found out the PDSL junction/corner lights are controlled by the NAV - a very cool feature.
As for Air, I find its really useful for utterly pointless ride height photos -

Funny I said to the salesman today "Wish I was spending this money on a Boxster Spyder" I so want one! I've had my S Diesel for nearly 2 months and I'm loving it. This is my first SUV and despite initial concerns about lack of performance and agility, I haven't stopped grinning since.

I've bottled it on the Hybrid...got a bit carried away because of the mega spec and the fact it was the exact colour and interior we wanted. I am instead getting a brand new mega spec S Diesel....OPC absolutely fine about it. Still going Moonlight Blue with the black and cream interior.
Wont be delivered until Q1 next year which is fine. Means I won't have it for the annual ski trip but that means I won't have to drop money for winter wheels immediately and a brand new car won't get trashed straight away!

Just chopped the 3 litre diesel in for a new S that the dealer had in unregistered. I achieved a good discount and figured like you that the new one won't be here for a little while yet so might as well enjoy the opportunity.
I had a 2014 Diesel S on loan when my old Cayman R went for service and I couldn't believe how fast it was. I thought they'd given me a turbo until I looked under the bonnet. The engine is mighty!
That one sounded like an old TVR V8 but I have heard that with the addition of adblue that its now quieter? How much quieter? Do you still get a good rumble?
Spec is:
jet black
Power steering plus
21" black part painted alloys
Air suspension with PASM
Pan roof
Rood rails in black
Crest seats
Heated seats
Privacy glass
Monochrome black exterior pack
14-way memory seats
New style PCM
DAB
Connect plus
Reversing camera
Hasn't got full leather or Bose but the standard stereo in my current car is actually quite good. Would have liked it but hey.
Car came to £78500 list. Collecting it between Xmas and New year. Cant wait to drive it but just wondered if the newer version has lost some of the audible pleasure?
I have pasm without air at the moment and agree with Taffy above to a degree. I'm yet to try air extensively but I remember that I the loan car I had was better in sport and felt too soft in comfort. The standard pasm is fine in confirm.

Nice spec! I've read the later cars with the Ad Blue are a bit quieter but I suppose that's a price to pay for Euro 6 compliance. I haven't driven an older car so can't comment.Just chopped the 3 litre diesel in for a new S that the dealer had in unregistered. Good spec cars seem to shift fairly quickly still....there are a lot on the AUC site but a lot seem to have been their for ages either over price or challenging spec. OPC Portsmouth advertised a car with 10 miles on the clock on Auto Trader a couple of weeks ago which had a fantastic spec...went in two days.
I agree on PASM the regular is absolutely fine and isn't a "must have" for ride comfort even on 21's.
Need to book my PEC session but don't think I can do it until after I pick up the car.

Well taken delivery Cheib! You're in for a treat!
They are so quick and they still have a good v8 rumble to them.
Took it home via the Evo triangle too!
I'm also averaging 33mpg which isn't too bad for a 4.2 twin turbo v8!
Epic family motoring!
Sounds like quite the drive home! I actually spent today driving my current X5 650 miles to Switzerland...have to say whilst the X5 does it so well I couldn't help feel the Cayenne would have been even better. Especially on fuel consumption...my X5 driven at 80mph with a roof box on top gets low 20's! They are so quick and they still have a good v8 rumble to them.

I had a Panamera 4S Diesel for the day last week which was superb and obviously has a similar but updated version of the V8 Diesel in the Cayenne. Couldn't believe how quick it was! Two months til I get my Cayenne...

Well they're basically B7 RS4 pace in a straight line but with about twice the torque - 626 lb ft. Overtaking is literally childs play, its an absolutely stonking engine. Now having played about and used the air suspension its great and being able to lower the ride height will be advantageous for you on long motorway runs. What I didn't realise is that the 14 way seats are clad in soft nappa leather which was a nice surprise and the new PCM is very good including the standard stereo which is way better than the standard one in my old 2015 cayenne.I had a Panamera 4S Diesel for the day last week which was superb and obviously has a similar but updated version of the V8 Diesel in the Cayenne. Just found this thread, had my 2013 Diesel S for about 18 months now. First 'sensible' car I've ever had that I haven't got bored with by the 12 month mark, still love it.
Decent fuel consumption, great performance, great noise (especially for a diesel) and superbly versatile. Mine regularly tows my large enclosed car transporter without breaking a sweat, even with a heavier car like the 928 in it.
Also (touch wood) it hasn't missed a beat in the 50,000 miles I've covered. Literally the only issue I've had is the panoramic roof creaking which is only ever an annoyance on cold days on country lanes with the stereo off.
It will be difficult to replace it
