I'm on my 7th 911 I know a lot about that particular model however my old man is looking to buy a Panamera which I know very little about .....he is looking for a 3yr old 4S or diesel.

I'm trying to look out for his best interests and advise him on what I feel is best for him - can some kind person please give me some feedback on the pros and cons of the 4S vs diesel debate. (oh and opinion on colour combos would also be appreciated :-)

Thanks in advance

And don't worry too much, both variants are able to carry a 5 litre water bottle from the nearest well back to your village smile

Because they have another petrol powered Porsche in the garage for fun, and the diesel is for bimbling around? ;-) Well, that's how I live with myself!

I've had a few Panameras as courtesy cars from my OPC. My feeling with the diesel was that it was a lovely car which was ruined by the engine. Where a Cayenne suits the torquey, low-revving nature of a diesel, the Panamera felt like such a sporty drive that without a nice free revving engine it was a bit disappointing. Even the hybrid was a more engaging drive, despite weighing about the same as a canal barge. The other observation was that the 2wd diesel was surprisingly tail happy on damp surfaces, so I can see the rationale for a 4wd 4S if you want something that can be a very sure-footed GT rather than for hooning.

Now a Panamera turbo and a paid-up fuel card, that would be something else entirely :-D

I think a 3 year old 4S will be the 4.8 litre V8, which is a great engine but made even better in GTS guise.

The GTS might cost slightly more than a 4S of the same age but has a much higher specification (turbo brakes, hotter cams, higher red line, wider track, lower suspension, better interior etc etc).

It would be worth trying as the engine is fantastic and it's much more of an event to drive than any other Panamera (turbo is faster but I found it slightly soulless).

Colour wise, I think they look best in GT Silver, agate grey, carbon grey or basalt black.

Just don't buy a hybrid. I bought one new last year and it was the worst decision ever.

Engine / tiptronic gearbox making for a terrible driving experience.

New Hybrid is allegedly the pick of the range . Old Hydrid I agree was a diasaster . The systems just didn't work together .
