Am I right in thinking the transfer box issue is / was for the petrol V6 S + GTS + petrol full fat turbos as they are multi clutch pack ?

Whereas the Macan S diesel had a torson transfer box / centre diff ? Capable of handling greater torque better ?

In other words the Macan SD s have a different transfer box than the petrol S s ?

2015 Macan S (258 bhp) diesel 80,000 miles
Three years ago at 68,000 miles car in for mot and without, initially my knowledge, Porsche Bournemouth changed the transfer box fluid under service campaign WLE9. As no problem with drive at that point ask why? dealer stated done as preventative measure to counter possible judder, vibration on initial acceleration. Three years and 12,000 miles later car experienced exactly that! Assumed transfer box on way out so contact CEO Porsche Cars UK and CEO Porsche Germany. Long story short, despite WLE9 being carried out within 7 transfer box warranty period Porsche CEO representative (Mr Bolton) wrote not associated with each other as different concerns and offered no help what’s so ever!!
Having read on various Macan forums of similar experiences (no actual transfer box failures) where the owners replaced Porsche transfer box fluid for Ravenol DTF 1 or Motul ? ? with apparent success I decided to try this. Encouragingly the magnet drain plug was free from metal debris, however considering fluid replaced only 12,000 miles ago the fluid removed was extremely black and very thin compared with the new Ravenol, making me very suspicious that original fluid was actually changed, but merely topped up as .725 mls rather than .50 mls removed!!??
The introduction of the Ravenol DTF 1 has TRANSFORMED the drive. The Ravenol fluid change appears to have resolved the low speed judder, vibration which manifest itself when hot. Conclusion, fluid requires changing at max 20,000 miles, however, “belt and braces” I’ll change mine every 10,000 miles!

SO, IF YOU HAVE SIMILAR SYMPTOMS DON’T IMMEDIATELY THINK THE TRANSFER BOX IS TOAST, GET THE FLUID CHANGED IT COULD SAVE YOU MANY MANY UNNECESSARY POUNDS OF EXPENSE!

I think it all depends how long it’s been juddering…. The underlying issue is that there is a breather on the transfer box which allows water ingress as in spray from the underbody. The water contaminates the oil, of which there is very little in the first place and then it degrades the clutch patch causing juddering. The new part includes a deflector which deflects water spray away from the breather but is otherwise identical. If I owned one I’d just change the oil annually I think as it’s very very simple to do. I looked into this as I was thinking of buying a cayenne which afaik shares the transfer box.

Does anyone know when the new breather arrangement / parts were introduced please. A car I am thinking of buying had its transfer box replaced in Nov 21 at approx 40k miles (it has now done approx 60k miles) and I would be interested to know whether it is likely that the new transfer box has the modified breather system and if that has “cured” the issue?
