Our March ‘16 GTS had a new transfer box in Sept ‘17 at around 16000 mls. OPC just diagnosed it needs a new one again, now at 50000 mls. No extended warranty but OPC offered FOC replacement which is being carried out next week.

Had our 2018 Turbo with 12k miles on it replaced last week.

Had started to notice a slight knock/rumble when pulling way. Seems Porsche have extended the warranty on the transfer box to 7 years now our local dealer told us.

Not a Macan but my 2012 Cayenne GTS had it's transfer case replaced for free by Silverstone Porsche last year.

I bought mine privately and they had not seen the car before. They are well aware of the problems.

Wow, so, clearly, even newer Macan's are being fitted with with not-fit-for-purpose transfer boxes..!
Is this a Porsche problem, as I don't hear of Audi SQ5 and other VAG similar products having same issue..?

Is this still a problem on a current 2021 build Macan, or are Porsche now fitted re-designed transfer boxes that are not made of chocolate?

I had started to look at a replacement for my X5 40d and dropping down in size to a Macan, for what would be my last new car that will take me into retirement...but, not if the current build cars still have such a faulty designed major component...eek

From what I've read on the Macan forum there has been a design change from 2019 onwards. The warranty on the box is now 7 years. As most seem to have been on the way out between 30-40k miles it may be too early to tell if the problem is still there.

Nobody likes buying into problem cars but the 7 year warranty must help ease the mind.............a bit!

Mines a 2017 pp Turbo on 42,000 - no issues (unless 1st owner had it changed before 10,000). Really good to know of the 7 yr warranty though - good on 'em!

The amount of reading I've done over this I'm beginning to think it's similar to the IMS/RMS debate. A lot of internet horror stories but in terms of sales, very small percentage of actual issues.

When speaking to Porsche they said had we had an issue with the door handles cracking as they are a known issue that they were just replacing like for like in the past. Now though they are looking to improve the design to try and fix it for good.

The 7 years on the transfer box is a nice gesture but I expect a lot will be run under the extended warranty anyway.

Already read about the handles. They also seem to have a leaking pano roof issue, water in the light clusters and the headlight lenses 'crazing'. Plenty of known problems to be wary of when buying a car in this price range. Shouldn't be happening IMHO. Trading on name/prestige rather than quality?

I love the car but its tragic that it needs new wheel centre caps and quad black tailpipes every 9 months. And it's out of warranty now and they never fixed these terrible finish components.

And therein lies the problem. Would you buy another one? I'd guess - yes. Porsche will continue in this vein while they can still sell them instead of addressing the issues.

Not sure why OPC are telling you guys that it costs so much - the price is £1100 installed and it takes just a couple of hours. And yes totally agree you should not have to pay anything but it is not £3500.
A one off £1100 after the seven years warranty expires is not so bad, on an expensive car. As the used values will factor it in.

How long will the new one last though, is it a new version?

Aaaah, so Porsche get their centre caps from the same shoddy cheapo plastics supplier that BMW use then rolleyes

Marvellous.

Perhaps Porsche need to use the same exhaust supplier that BMW use then, as the chrome tips on my X5 exhaust are perfect at 4 years old.

Can anyone point me in the direction of I formation in cracked door handles?
My car is out of warranty so I’m interested to see if Porsche will fix this issue FOC.
All four handles on my wife’s car have cracked now.

Many thanks! I’ve taken some screen shots so let’s see what my OPC says. 🤞

2017 Macan S Diesel, bought new from OPC Portsmouth - juddering symptoms appeared at 39.5k miles. A new transfer box is being fitted today under the extended warranty. I think I’ll buy another 2 years when this warranty expires next March.

Extended my warrantee again on Cayenne for similar reason. Wanted to get oil changed on mine as a precaution by my local service guy but he found info on the oil very difficult to get hold of and software systems on the car unreadable by his new up to date reader which cover Audi and VW. We gave up.

Did you have any luck with getting them replaced? Two separate delaer groups have refused to replace mine under the extended warranty, One said the cracks are bad enough and the other said they're not bad enough and Porsche are waiting for a more permanent solution before agreeing to change them
