Macan Diesel Buying Advice

Aware that the last diesels were made in 2018 but mileage on new petrols is off-putting. Technology has advanced so much in recent years how does it compare against what is available now in terms of not too much of a biggish retro step technology wise or is it minimal?

Also any things to be aware of if buying 5 yo macan diesel?

Transfer box. Watch out for that packing up

CarPlay - needs Porsche Car Connect option to allow CarPlay connectivity. Without CarPlay the Tech inside feels dated

Friend has an early one, are there any signs that point to the transfer box starting to go?

DPF are a problem on later cars unless you are doing the kind of driving that will keep them clean.

The classic symptom is juddering at low speed, forward or reverse. Its an inherent fault, so its a case of when not if, sadly. My OPC diagnosed it within seconds and the replacement box cost me nothing a couple of years ago. Porsche were replacing them under an extended warranty/goodwill arrangement, assume they still are.

I believe the transfer box warranty extension was to 8 years? Please correct me if I'm wrong. Buying a 2018 Gen 1 Macan you have three-ish years for it to go wrong and get fixed for free. After that, if you carry on extending the warranty, I don't know what the situation would be.

We just bought a Gen 2 car to avoid the issues and get the facelift/tech upgrades (but keep the centre buttons) but I don't think there were any Gen 2 diesels?

Diesels are all well and good, but like most vehicles they don't respond well to mostly short journeys where they never really get up to operating temperatures. Is it going to be used for commuting, or just predominantly around town?

Hi yes most of the journeys would be 5 - 20 miles. never thought of that - thanks to all the responses its really helpful

I have a 16 reg Cayenne S diesel and bought it while I still had the choice. I had a petrol one previously. Fab vehicle in every way and would by a SH 5 yr old one in a flash.
Had a 3.0 diesel Macan as a loner for a day and enjoyed every mile.
SH from a OPC will have 2 yr warranty so it’s a safe purchase that way.

I would avoid the diesel for short journeys as the dpf light will come on regularly. Got rid of my 67 plate that I bought new in Feb 2018 after 2 years due to repeated issues with dpf.
