Oh yes 18 way seats are fantastic….miles better than what they put in the current cars. Well worth finding one with them.
Sadly the one I’m looking at doesn’t have 18 way seats, but I think the main difference is lack of inflatable bolsters ?Mine is a bit older, pre Adblue. The only problem I have/had is heavy condensation in the headlights so worth checking. They are expensive to replace outside of a warranty. It had a recall for change of transfer box oil and software update (reported to be allegedly associated with the dieselgate scandal).
I've got a 2013 diesel s. As has been said great engine. In my case buying an OPC extended warranty was possibly the best financial decision I've ever made. I can't remember the exact figure but a 2 year warranty was around £1700. That warranty has paid for over £10k of repairs so far.
It is now on 102k miles. Warranty expires in Dec this year. I will be renewing it. The rules are they will warranty a car up to 15 years old and it has to be under 125k miles when the warranty is taken out. If it goes beyond 125k miles during the warranty period that is ok. The 15 years bit is a hard stop. You also can't transfer the warranty if the car is beyond 125k miles.
Starting at the front and working back, in my ownership it has had :
Headlight washer - leaking and draining the washer fluid bottle
Headlight - misting up
PCM - Dead
Door seal - Trapping water
Prop shaft - vibration
2 rear door locks - failed
Bose amplifier - draining battery
Two rear suspension air bags - Leaking
Rear wiper motor and washer - Washer leaked into motor and shorted it
The previous owner, also under OPC warranty had two transfer cases fitted among other things.
There are possibly some other things that I have forgotten. The myth of German quality lol.
The benefit of all the work is I've got to try a 911, Panamera and several Taycans as courtesy cars.

Sure. Here is my thinking…
I used to have a 3.0D 958 which we loved.
Always been curious about the V8 diesel given the huge praise about the engine (validated by many of the comments on this thread).
Sadly the V8D isn’t available in the Gen3 car, hence limited to the older car.
In this particular case, the two cars have a very similar specification; the S Diesel has full leather instead of the grainy partial leather (seats only).
Other reasons:
- the new car in 3.0T form is quite dull in terms of driving experience
- the new car is marginally wider (~5cm) but this feels material when parking in my garage and going through 6’ width restrictions
- I like the buttons in the centre console of the old car (vs the glass touch screen in the Gen3 cars
- the 2017 model has PCM4 so I get CarPlay which was one of the must-haves for me on the older car
I will say that the 3.0T is impressive in terms of fuel economy: 18-20 around town and 30-32 on the motorway.

Out of interest where does that come from ?Edited by HDJ100 on Thursday 25th January 07:46

Looking at the T’s&C’s it doesn’t mention that
https://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/p...
I ask because I’ve maxed out the Warranty on mine….my intention was to sell with a few months warranty remaining in a couple of years. It is well past 125k miles already!
Mainly for the engine, because I think a torquey diesel suits SUVs.
Also didn’t feel like the Gen3 was significantly better than the 958. In fairness, this could be because I had the base 3.0T, rather than anything more exotic like the GTS or Turbo ?
Will confirm a definitive view after I’ve driven the V8D tomorrow.

At the risk of being an interloper in this thread, I had a V8D for a week and didn't think much of it. The car itself was great (looks, build quality, ergonomics, etc.), but the drivetrain ruined it for me.Also didn’t feel like the Gen3 was significantly better than the 958. The latency through the fly-by-wire throttle, combined with the lazy nature of diesel fuel, the turbochargers, and then a torque converter gearbox all amalgamated into something very unpleasant. It wasn't slow by any means, but you did have to put your foot on the throttle a full second before you wanted to accelerate.
Of course, if you like torquey diesels like you say, it might be right up your street.

I was told this by my OPC. It was a verbal discussion rather than anything written. I have emailed Porsche UK to ask for clarification and will post the response back here.OP I hope you enjoy your V8D experience.
Edit - Had an auto reply from Porsche, I can expect a reply in 7 days.
