Here you go.................... Started with a '69 911T back in 1984 paying £1300 from Autotrader. For some strange reason on import it came on a Y (1983) registration?

I thought I'd done well selling it on to a chum for £1500 within 6 months. He sold it 6 months later making a bigger profit. It's probably in that great scrap heap in the sky now?

After a lengthy break ended up with this '95 993 with 53k on the clock:

Did about 2k in it in 3yrs and sold it through lack of use deciding I no longer needed a classic. However within two months of selling decided to look for a more useable 964 somehow ended up with this limited edition:

I knew didly squat about the 'Jubi' until I went on the off chance to have a look at it. Fortunately a chap in Germany who maintains the Jubi Register knew a great deal about its history and appearance in magazines etc which the seller didn't. laugh

(BTW - It took a few £s to get it to look like that. Getting it at a good price helped thumbup)

Thanks. Covers a lot of bases. The Silver car is a 1970 RHD UK original 2.2S. Old cars need names. This is Lola.

The following history of the car since my ownership is what i can remember and have picked up along the way so it may be wrong, i advertised the car for sale in the 911 porsche world magazine due to the fact that the mot was due to run out soon and i did not think i would get another years ticket on it due to the amount of work and cost required, plus my first born was on his way, well i got a lot of interest on the car and a chap from London phoned, i cannot remember his name but he told me he designed record covers for some big names and his partner had something to do with the guinness empire, i never met the chap as i was paid via bank transfer and 2 chaps drove up with a trailer to collect the car for him, i heard that it had been restored at great cost for Brian, then Neil Primrose from Travis had owned it and it had done the tour britannia a few times with him and its next owner, i cannot remember his name, but Sean Lockyear who sold a few cars from near Skipton who also did the tour britannia had advertised it a couple of times, the last time i saw it was last year being advertised by Paul Stephens who must of sold it as i have not seen it since, its the only car i've regretted selling as these cars only come once if your lucky, but the car as it is today is a long way from when i owned it, it does'nt even have the external oil filler flap anymore which is a shame, i bet his got that cold start working.

just caught this bit of your story this morning smile i'll tell you a little story about the guy in question......

a couple of years ago i was doing the rounds of old 911 ownership & really fancied building something myself, i had the guy to do it & a basic spec in mind but on seeing someone on a forum with a rebuilt 911sc in a lovely shade of orange i thought i'd get in touch to see who had built the car. (very) long story short i bought it off him at a very reasonable price, this was the car;
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=107...

anyhow, it was all detailed here in a slightly uninteresting way but i just hated driving the thing, well maybe not hate but i just didn't enjoy it & it felt as old as it bloody well was.

kudos to the classic drivers but it just aint for me.

so i drafted a very detailed advert for the car, put it up on PH the week in between xmas & new year to see what the interest would be. literally within hours of the ad going live i took a phone call from some scouse bloke in france who asked all the right questions but was obviously out of the country.

bloke says its the car for him so will i give him my bank account details so he can send me a deposit. i've got to be honest, i thought he was some chancer & told him i wouldn't be taking a deposit off anyone who hadn't seen the car & if he wanted it he would have to come up & at least see it.

anyway, i was off to the lakes for a new years eve so i said ring around a few folk who had seen the car & get a feel to see if it's something you want to make the journey over for

the next day he rings up again, he can't get in touch with any of the guys who've worked on the car as they're all shut for xmas but he's still adamant he wants it, full asking price i'll give you the money now etc. he said he couldn't get over as he was at his holiday home in france & the wife would go spare if he took off to look at some car plus the snow was really bad. i'm having none of it so he says look, give me your account number & i'll start sending the money over ten grand at a time, do you know who i am etc?

so i said no mate, no idea who you are but he says well i know who you are, unbeknown to me whilst we've been chatting he's been getting all these little details about me & searched me out. knew where my business was, what i did, all that sort of stuff. so he gives me his details & says for me to check him out as he was serious about buying it which i obviously did-turns out he was serious hehe told me about these albums he'd designed & all that...

so he starts sending the money over, £10k a day, i get the full amount & i go off for a happy new year smile

life goes on & i've heard nowt from him-i better ring the guy but i hadn't saved his number & it was so long ago it wasn't in my recent calls history. i ring up the mobile operator who were no joy so i've got a ton of coin in my bank, a car in the garage & no buyer, i started to get a little bit worried! i mean, who does that with all that money?!

so, over a month later i get a phone call, where you at mate etc & i'm like i'm at work pal-where you been? ah on holiday etc but never mind that we're on our way up with a trailer-be there soon so see you in a bit.

so off i go back home to see this scouser turn up with a race shuttle & some bloke of the telly. i make the coffees & we start chatting, turns out he had something crazy like 10-20 RS' at one point & loads of those daft little fizzy motorbikes-a proper collector!

anyway, after all this i says well you might want to have a look at the car eh? so off we go to the garage, open the door & all they say is yeah that's nice, start it up & put it in the race shuttle. some total of about 2 mins of inspection.

thanks very much & all that & we'll be off but i mention they were £500 short on the deal-the asking price which he'd agreed to was £500 more than what they'd sent over so he says no worries do you want it in cash & pulls out a wad of notes. no! i say, just send it over when you get home by bank transfer, it'll be a few days as we have a few errands to run etc but i'm like no bother.

& by the end of the week there it was in my bank, job jobbed.

he was a character alright, don't know what else he's got but i think he still has the orange one i sold him.

The reason is that until the introduction of the registration prefix, imported used vehicles were registered with the current registration letter.

It was also possible and quite common for people to re-register their vehicles using the current registration letter. This is why there are so many Y registered LHD cars - it was their last opportunity to re-register.

This is why one of the questions on an auction declaration was 'has the vehicle ever been re-registered?'.

Thanks Chum for clearing that up thumbup I'll bet it's no longer around. I recall it was terrible to drive in the wet. With the thin tyres you go to turn a corner and the car ploughed straight on.

Looks great Cmoose.

Don't tell anybody I said this, but the original 2.5 cars are destined for classic status. They look so right and lets face it, they saved Porsche.

My 66 SWB rally prepared. Had it two weeks. Plenty to do on it but should make a nice regularity rally car.
