964 Coffee Break
Discussion
So, Sunday was the first proper outing for the old girl this year. Me and some 964 buddies went on a CAT driver training day at Millbrook to do their over grip limit and drifting course. I've now got even greater respect for how hard a 964 can be pushed. It's an absolute hoot to get it sideways. Came away with a big grin on my face.

That sounds like a hoot and a half. Any more details?
Of course. Most of the day was spent on the steering pad which is a big concrete square they use to work on under and over steer. In the morning we used their caterhams to learn and practice the basics of oversteer, reactive correction for the slide and drifting.
After a nice lunch we then used our own 964s to do slip angle mapping and experience the limits of the car in cornering. This essentially used the approach road to build up speed so that we would enter the steering pad at about 70 mph for a medium 180 degree corner designed to experience trail braking in, balancing the throttle to the apex and then the power phase to the exit. This let us experience the limits of the cars in the dry, how to reduce understeer and how to correct for oversteer. The steering pad was then wetted and we did low speed drifting round the centre of the circle and then moved on to higher speed power oversteer. The latter used the approach road again so that we entered the, now wet, steering pad at a good lick. This was the most fun because it involved trail braking to the apex, then lifting off while there was still some steering lock on to hang out the tail and then use power and steering to drift the car out to the exit. And of course spin every once in a while!
All in all a top day out. I'd love to put up pics and video but cameras are banned at Millbrook because of the car testing that goes on - they don't want any secrets leaked to the press, etc. Hence, I've also no photos of the couple of disguised McLarens that were hooning about on the high speed banking.
Presuming it's an honest ad, I wonder how long this C2 will hang about?

Tks
Have you asked OlberJ about his? See page 3 of this thread. Tks

Well the driver's seat certainly looks like it's covered 340,000 miles! Bidding is up to £8,950 as I write.

Hiya Steve! I think you've got the 964 bug for life now. Lovely cars. I've just got back into an SC and I'm waiting on another SC race car so I should be ready for some track action soon - showing you guys with power steering how it's done
What? Me? 964 bug?...never! Good to hear that you're swapping Porsches mate. One day, when you get to my age, you'll re-discover the need for power steering. Wozy68 said:
Sorry for the hijack
I've looked at the H&R ARBS for front and back for my C2 993. They are an absolute bargain compared to the OEM ones. What do you make of them? I'm about to replace OE dampers with Koni FSDs with new top mounts and M033 OEM springs . I want modern suspension, but that is not crashy on the quick B roads of the UK, as I don't track it.
My worry is that the H&Rs are ALOT bigger diameter than the originals, something like 20 to 26MM front, 19 up to 24 rear.
I thought these would be way too stiff, did you not find this on your 964, or suffer with under/oversteer issues.?
The 964 H&R ones are 24 mm at the front (same as 964RS) and 26 mm at the rear. Both are on the softer setting at the moment. The car feels a little stiffer than with the previous standard bars (20 at the front and 21 at the back) but I wouldn't describe it as a crashy ride. Although I'm sure that the combination of the KWV3 suspension, polybushed wishbones, RS engine mounts, recaro buckets and now the stiffer bars would make it feel harsh to someone with a standard 964.I've looked at the H&R ARBS for front and back for my C2 993. The addition of the bars is one of the last things on my long list of mods, most of which have been aimed at improving it for track days. Doing the changes in stages has allowed me to judge the effect of each one. Initial findings for the bars is that the car has a sharper turn in on the road. I'm hoping that this will translate into reduced understeer on the track....should find out the results in a few weeks time at Anglesey Circuit.
