964 Coffee Break
Discussion
My recently purchased 964 (1990 manual) engine is now making an expensive sounding knocking noise. Has anyone any tips on getting a replacement or repaired? I have seen engines at breakers but have no idea if they are any good. If any has one available or knows of one please let me know.
Thanks
Thanks

Buying a used engine and having it fitted is likely to be more expensive than having the current one repaired/rebuilt. A second hand engine might need rebuilding anyway. Thanks
You would be better having a specialist look at what the current one needs doing to it. It might be a broken head stud making the noise, in which case you'll need a top end rebuild. Let us know where you are so that people can recommend a specialist that is close to you.
This one caught my eye.

But then I found a thread back in February on PH... it was advertised for £24.5k and appeared to be sold immediately but was then quickly re-advertised, apparently by the same owner, for £29.5k.
Now listed again for £26.75k ?
Anyone know the car ?

looks nice. the only thing i'd worry about is engine work and how bad its rotted underneath the lovely blue paint work. When you see rust bubble like the one in the pic you just know there's more. If you budget a max £8k spend (top end rebuild in that budget) to get it tip top then I think that's more realistic than the vendor's £3k estimate. I really like it but I don't think currently its as good a car as the vendor thinks. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

Boxsey, Thanks for the sound advice. I am in Surbiton, Surrey (close to south west London). You would be better having a specialist look at what the current one needs doing to it. Of those on the list above friends with 964s have recommended; Nine excellence, Jaz, JZM and GT one. Many also use Redtek (not on the list).
Had a friendly sprint day at Curborough sprint course in Staffordshire on Saturday. 8 x 964s came along plus a few others. It thrashed down with rain for most of the day but if anything that all added to the fun. A couple of racing drivers were on hand to give demonstration drives and show us how it should be done. A few us did some spectacular spins (including yours truly) but only egos were damaged (it's not a high speed track).
While the racing drivers were the quickest on the day (no surprise there), honors for the normal drivers easily went to the C4 owners when it came to the best lap times. but the C2 owners got the prizes for the most sliding and spins
A couple of runs in my C2:

Freedman in his C4:

Jevvy's runs (not a 964 but lots of fun watching him twirl the wheel):

Grant whimped out and bought his 996 turbo instead:
