Hi all,

I've just bought my first Porsche, a 91 964 C4 in Guards Red. Because I'm living in the US alot more, i decided to bite the bullet and get something over here. Found one in Arizona that looks tidy and has had some money spent on it by the previous owner/s.

I'm looking to change the wheels from the stock D90's to either Speedlines or Cups and maybe drop it an inch or so. I also want to do away with the factory airbag and go for either a Momo wheel or the 930 wheel, is this a tricky job to do?

I've seen a couple with the xenon light conversion kits, but might just opt for the bulb replacement and new lenses. I was planning on doing an exhaust change, so open to suggestions as to what to change to.

Regards,

Rog.

Sounds like you want to do the same sort of things that many do over here and in Europe. However, I believe some of the US states are a lot stricter of what you can and can't do when it comes to changing original safety features (airbag steering wheel) and emissions (which would be affected by exhaust changes). Best to check locally what can be done before going ahead. The Rennlist forums are US based. So it's worth asking the questions over there:

Yeah, already joined up with Rennlist, you can get lost in there for hours. Good point about the safety mods, i have a few people do it, so i'm hoping that it will be alright. The first job is the wheels, Speedlines or Cups?

Thanks, 7J on the front and 9J on the rear.

My car is off the road at the moment for a full engine rebuild. I was initially going to go for the 3.8 Mahle pistons and barrels but mine were so good I have decided to keep it 3.6.

I am thinking about the air mass conversion. Has anyone on here done this, if so does it come recommended?

Advert says full service history - is that not the case ? It should be rust free at least.

I see it didn't sell, I think the guide was a little ambitious even for the increasingly popular 964. The rest of the Porsches did well in the sale though.

There are some potentially well priced ones in Kings Lynn next month if they go for the guide price

Hi Guys,

I've just spotted and enjoyed going through this thread. Some familiar names and some new ones, so hello to all and here's my 1990 C2 manual.

Some photos from re-trim (unfinished) black carpet set and Spinneybeck leather weave.

I hope to be back on the road in a few weeks and I hope to see one or two of you around.

Cheers,
Paul

That looks epic - stunning ! Please tell me more about the restoration - what's going on with the engine for example ? I am just in the process of restoring a beautiful matching numbers , original panels , 964 3.6 Turbo to showroom standard - all very exciting - having to learn to be patient ! Enjoy yours , as I say , epic looking car smile

Hi Paul,

I am also in the process of rebuilding a low mileage but very leaky 964 c2 (1990). The engine is fully disassembled at present and we are getting close to putting things back together. We have had the heads modified to prevent leaks on the head to barrel surface. Did you make any modification to prevent leaks between the crankcase and barrels?

Your car is stunning. I can't wait to see that interior finished.

Cheers,
Ryan

Hi,

Thank you, much appreciated! Lucky man a 3.6 Turbo! Nice!!!

I had my car's engine rebuilt at around 74k miles, just over a year ago. It's a Redtek 3.8 RSR full build by Nick Fulljames:

Mahle pistons and barrels, blue-printed and balanced, boat-tailed gas-flowed case, steel connecting rods, new Glyco bearings. Heavy duty springs and valves (TRW), RSR cams, titanium retainers. New chains & guides. Heavy duty ARP studs. Motec M84 ECU, PMO throttle bodies, fast lambda. ITG air-filters. RS Flywheel & clutch, RS quick-shift. Full 993 braking system - inc. MC, brake booster, rear callipers with MO30 discs, 964 turbo front callipers and discs. Bilstein B16 coil-over suspension. 18" Fuchs and a few other odd & sods.

Still left to do: The interior re-trim to finish and finally the rest of the suspension, new bushes, camber plates, top-mounts etc.

Good luck with your project, can we look forward to seeing a thread somewhere?

Thanks for your comments Guys!

"Did you make any modification to prevent leaks between the crankcase and barrels?"

The cylinder heads were refaced, I'm not sure which sealant Nick used but he's always happy to pass on his knowledge if you contact him. Good luck with your rebuild!

Cheers,
Paul
