As Wozy68 eludes to, the first 964C2s were model year 90 which means they were available for delivery from late 89.

Hoping I'll finally get my 964 back this week from the somewhat tardy specialist in whose care it's been for 8 months.

Here's a pic to remind myself what I've been missing; 46k mile '91 GPW C4; bone stock with rebuilt suspension, brakes, engine and freshly detailed:

I'm hoping its not too good to use!

I think the answer to that depends on whether you think about in terms of what it's currently worth on the open market or in terms of the price you bought it for. I bought one seven years ago to use it and still use in the same way now as I did then.

Good to hear that you've been re-united! thumbup

Thanks Berty, what were you in when you were there?

Indeed we had a blast both at Spa and Zandvoort. Here's me trying to keep up with Kev's rubystone RS at Spa:

I was in a friend's Lotus Exige and also another friend took me round in his Radical SR3 which was awesome must say...incredible the change in weather at that place.
He he that would have been great. Those radicals looked in their element at Spa. I needed the wipers on triple speed when they went past me in the wet. biggrin

My recently purchased 964 (1990 manual) engine is now making an expensive sounding knocking noise. Has anyone any tips on getting a replacement or repaired? I have seen engines at breakers but have no idea if they are any good. If any has one available or knows of one please let me know.

Thanks
Buying a used engine and having it fitted is likely to be more expensive than having the current one repaired/rebuilt. A second hand engine might need rebuilding anyway.

You would be better having a specialist look at what the current one needs doing to it. It might be a broken head stud making the noise, in which case you'll need a top end rebuild. Let us know where you are so that people can recommend a specialist that is close to you.

Boxsey, Thanks for the sound advice. I am in Surbiton, Surrey (close to south west London).
Plenty of choice down there, here's a list of specialist contact details:

Of those on the list above friends with 964s have recommended; Nine excellence, Jaz, JZM and GT one. Many also use Redtek (not on the list).

Had a friendly sprint day at Curborough sprint course in Staffordshire on Saturday. 8 x 964s came along plus a few others. It thrashed down with rain for most of the day but if anything that all added to the fun. A couple of racing drivers were on hand to give demonstration drives and show us how it should be done. A few us did some spectacular spins (including yours truly) but only egos were damaged (it's not a high speed track). biggrin

While the racing drivers were the quickest on the day (no surprise there), honors for the normal drivers easily went to the C4 owners when it came to the best lap times. bow but the C2 owners got the prizes for the most sliding and spins tongue out

A couple of runs in my C2:

Freedman in his C4:

Jevvy's runs (not a 964 but lots of fun watching him twirl the wheel):

Grant whimped out and bought his 996 turbo instead:

Hi all,

I've just bought my first Porsche, a 91 964 C4 in Guards Red. Because I'm living in the US alot more, i decided to bite the bullet and get something over here. Found one in Arizona that looks tidy and has had some money spent on it by the previous owner/s.

I'm looking to change the wheels from the stock D90's to either Speedlines or Cups and maybe drop it an inch or so. I also want to do away with the factory airbag and go for either a Momo wheel or the 930 wheel, is this a tricky job to do?

I've seen a couple with the xenon light conversion kits, but might just opt for the bulb replacement and new lenses. I was planning on doing an exhaust change, so open to suggestions as to what to change to.

Regards,

Rog.
Sounds like you want to do the same sort of things that many do over here and in Europe. However, I believe some of the US states are a lot stricter of what you can and can't do when it comes to changing original safety features (airbag steering wheel) and emissions (which would be affected by exhaust changes). Best to check locally what can be done before going ahead. The Rennlist forums are US based. So it's worth asking the questions over there:

Cool picture Steve! Your car looks lower than the Cup car there, have you gone lower?
No, mine's still the same height. I'm not sure what spec Paul has the cup set up (it's not been adjusted since he bought it). The nice pic was taken by our buddy Chris Whittle.
