I only occasionally see an air-cooled 911 on our roads in my part of the country, but when I do, to me most seem to be just pottering along, rather than being driven as designed.

Just got the 993 back from service and as the weather was beautiful, decided to take her for a spin. I thought a quick trip out, that's all.

Ended up doing a very fast run from Evesham up into the Cotswolds via the A44 to Stow, then B road to Andoverford, from there country lanes to Withington and the Whiteway to Cirencester (very fast along there), from there to Fairford, Lechlade and A361 to Burford, up to Chipping Norton then what was the old A34 to Shipston on Stour (empty and lovely road surface), B4035 Shipston to Chipping Campden, stopped for a pint in Campden, then the 10 miles steady jaunt back on home from there.

Loved every minute of it, beautiful scenery, blue skies, warm weather, little traffic and the sound of a flat six with RSRs was music to the ears.

I guess I must have done around 140 miles and I hadn't even planned a route. Hope you are all making the best of the weather smile

350 miles last. Weekend from oop north to some of those roads, A44 ( what is it with the 50mph signs). Friday was gorgeous. Off to Silverstone tomorrow so another 300 miles.

Out yesterday in my 964, left the roof down all day even at our lunch and dinner stops.
Did a few hundred miles with some of my best mates over some fab roads.
Just brings home too how small and nimble the air cooled cars are.
Wall to wall sunshine sure helps make the day too. :-)

Once nicely warmed up I like to spank my air-cooled like a ginger stepchild. What's the point of having a Porsche if you don't drive it somewhat as intended? That's one drawback of a rising market IMO - lots of people becoming overly precious about an investment and not truly enjoying their machines.

It's an absolute joy to see older pre-73 cars going along at a decent clip, an impact bumper accelerating hard down a slip road or the spoiler on a 964 popping up as the outside lane clears in front of them. This for me is what it is all about.

Feck polishing. Get driving. They are cars after all.

Cheers

Wozy, that route takes in much of the regular route that I take when I'm giving my 'old lady' a spanking.!! We'll have to have a run out together, properly frighten the wildlife!

Was out on those roads on Friday and Saturday with my brother - breaking the 'new girl' in...

Hi there, Coolio, that would be great but might have to wait a bit...

Got her back from service on Thursday ......... and last trip out for a while though before major work. Basically a 993 suspension totally wears out at 123K I have found out.

She needs, new front wishbones, new bump stops, new rear upper control arms front and back, new top mounts x 4, new dampers x 4 (Which I have in the shed) new lower rear control arms, new rear ARB bushes........ oh and 4 x new tyres. GULP

They did say though that car is in great condition hehe

12 months a go and 5K miles she just needed bonnet dampers at £35.00. This 3rd of July I'm booked on the Santander ferry to race around Northern Spain against me mates on their bikes ........ and I aint paid for the rest of the trip yet frown

Happy days

EDIT. That wall in the pic, not just after Fossbridge heading north on the A429 by any chance.

The last time I got to spank my aircooled was May of last year. It has been with a good mate awaiting a bit of fettling (an under statement). I hopefully will have it back by the end of May frown. At this point everything should be right with the world and I will get to enjoy it as was my original intent some four years ago. I think my SSE hates me for stripping a lovely road car into a race car and is making its anger known.

Took the 964 out on Easter Monday. Quick spin up to the N. Norfolk Coast, fish and chips and a blast back home south of Norwich.
