Anyone watching?

Started out as a half comedy, rom com feel good type thing that I half watched while the wife enjoyed it.

Tonight's episode is so far bloody harrowing.

Scene with the female copper was shocking.

Smiler.

Yup, a very sinister turn of events. I like the way she dealt with the gobste in the car.

Absolutely brilliant series. Have to say I thought it had pretty dark undertones from the off.

Acting is superb. Sarah Lancashire especially.

Her sister Clair and Nevison were two thirds of Rita, Sue and Bob Too.

Enjoying this a lot. Tonight's episode was harrowing/disturbing but great acting by all. Sarah Lancashire is superb and Steve Pemberton seems to adapt to drama with aplomb.

I'm really liking this. Brilliantly acted by pretty much all from a good script with a good story line (if possibly a little far fetched). There's enough of an arc to make it to two or three series too with drugs in the valley, corruption of local officials etc.

Thought the way they shot the MINI scene was very well done - not graphic in the act but enough after to give you chills.

Started watching it but stopped when the young WPC stopped the van because I knew straight away what was going to happen.

Yeah the Ex-con really is a very nasty piece of work.

Wasn't looking forward to the series at all but quite enjoying it now.

Excellent series, in a similar vein to "Last Tango in Halifax", also starring Sarah Lancashire, filmed in the same general area around Rochdale/Hebden Bridge.

That's what I thought it was going to be like when the wife insisted we watched it!

I'm enjoying it - the threads that are being pulled together and all that grey lines stuff...

Plus nice to see Alun Armstrong's son is a chip off the old block (Ashley) and another outing for Tinita Tikarams' brother (only ever saw him in This Life before).

So is the grandson deffo the offspring of the murderous rapist?

He's very good. Such a good performance that I wouldn't be surprised if he got attacked in the supermarket by one of those mad old biddies that hits tv soap baddies with their walking sticks.

I recall the guy that played Richard Hillman in Corrie saying he was spat at, sworn at, and hit a few times for making Gail's life hell on telly. hehe

Most of it has been done round Sowerby Bridge, we've kept seeing them filming out and about the Calder Valley over the last few months.

Well yes, you are correct,... probably wrong choice of phrase, what I meant was gritty northern drama filmed in the same general area in the north west.

Of course "Happy Valley" is much more violent.....

He is. You really, really want him to come to an extremely unpleasantly sticky end.

Various combinations of Costigan, Sarah Lancashire, Siobhan Finneran and Lesley Sharp have a habit of cropping up together in different productions - often by Sally Wainwright.

Some scenes were filmed in Lumbutts, with Stoodley pike in the background.

The "farm" in Last Tango was actually located in Norden, just outside Rochdale......
