Would a 2.4s be a good place to put money?

If you look at Peter Morgan's book on the early 911's, he suggests that matching numbers is not so important so long as it is the correct engine / year version for the car.
In fact, I think he suggests that this might be matching numbers because so many cars had crankcase issues.
I believe the 2.4S could be 3R or 5R, but I own both a '73 2.4S and a ''75 2.7 Euro Carrera --- the former matching numbers by Peter's criteria and the later matching build numbers.
When I asked Peter what he felt the value difference should be between matching numbers and matchin build numbers, he sugested 5% ...
The alternate engine in the 2.4S was fitted by Autofarm, --- who have a great reputation for provenance.
I also know of cars where they have not been matching build numbers and they have reappeared some years later, the original engine having been found.
It is interesting that Porsche will now confirm numbers, but will not give correct build numbers !!
Maybe the Conrad and Gruberstein book does the 2.7RS fewer favours than we thought ?

I observed the exact same phenomenon exactly one year ago. Last autumn a surprising amount of relatively clean cars popped up out of nowhere and didn’t sell at what appeared to be "reasonable" prices for that time. I figured "oh well, that’s it - was fun while it lasted". By march all the cars were gone and prices started rising again. Mine cost £5,500 in April 1988, still have the car. This thread takes 30 mins to read, but.......

Whilst on holiday in Los Angeles in June,I went to visit a company that I am
always coming across as having many early 911s,with the intention of buying
an early pre impact bumper car.
The only car that really caught my eye was a very tidy ,non numbers matching 911 2.4s targa
for $55,000.
Was worth every penny IMO,but I decided instead to buy an early 308 fibreglass they had
for not a lot more.
I think with a bit of running around,and being in the right place at the right time
there's always something with a bit of upside to buy.

The all state unsold at the moment. The Brown car made £145k on the hammer I think so £160k ish all in. Fair money for a RHD car. Recent sales have been well above that.
