The Sportomatic is actually very clever. OK, manual is better and faster, but a good Sporto shouldn't be underestimated.
If investment potential is important, then I would 100% agree that originality in all respects will be key. And, in the fullness of time, Porsche's first semi-automatic (long before Tip and PDK) will be valued for its rarity.
The car isn't an investment piece though. It's colour changed, is a 2.7 and has no history. So better to maximise the driving pleasure. In Sporto guise the OP will never be able to overtake anything on a country road. A 915 box is the only way to go.If investment potential is important, then I would 100% agree that originality in all respects will be key. It was white - so colour is correct. Part history but doing this to keep and enjoy - would get a GT3 RS if I wanted a point to point car.Irish said:

According to his original post, it was Guards Red.I've driven 2.4, 2.7 and 3.0 Sporto. I'm only giving my advice based on just how piss poor a spotomatic is in anything other than a 3 litre car.
By no stretch would the fitment of a 915 'box make any car a 'point to point' car. And besides, the OP himself has also stated that he is interested in maintaining the originality of the car.

Yes, that was the original post but through stipping and contacting porsche it was confirmed as Grand Prix White car registered by AFN day after I was born - that is the hook for me. What can I say - I am contrarian - but in 20 years an original MY77 sporto will be a curiosity if nothing else. Enjoying the build process.
Edit: Also not understanding the backdating trend.

I like that you want to do a proper restoration and not another RS fake which are starting get boring!
However, if this is a car to enjoy on a weekend, i would certainly do the manual conversion. Originality is nice, but consider the value of all the modified and backdated cars out there. This is not a rare enough 911 to be concerned about 100% authenticity.
