Chaps if I had to keep one car for the rest of my days it would be my 3.2C. Far more engaging than any of the modern stuff.

But a cayman is not a special car in the way a old 911 is, although a far more capable car they are too easy to drive quickly and are too numerous, like boxters they will not achieve classic status imo. Maybe I'm biased as a child of the 90s but new cars by in large do nothing for me. Driving aids and bland audiesc styling do not mean a drivers car, for most people they are like a bling watch, another status symbol. If I do sell up I'd want another analogue car, a car which floods you with adrenaline on or near the limit. Being able to hoon about at top speed should be a challenge not like a lap of gran turismo.

Good point well made.

I'm with you.

I personally found my 964 more of a difficult drive on unknown roads.

I have never found my 930 challenging to drive aside from at parking speeds!

I know, sadly I'm too tall - the ability is there naturally, but the height, weight, stomach all too much for that tiny cockpit; it's the only thing that blocked the big guys from coming in for me sadly mad

touché hehe

I had a lovely 1984 911 turbo for less than a month primarily because I realised i did not have enough talent to not end up in a hedge backwards in it. I can safely say that I would be quicker down my favourite back road in almost any other car I've owned. Fabulous and beautiful car but very difficult to get the best out of it for us mere mortals. The definition of "challenge" in the oxford dictionary should include a reference to an early 911 turbo. I still want one though. smile

I viewed this car around March albeit at another garage.
Advertised at 27-28k I think at the time.
Corrosion around bottom of B Posts so guess Kidney bowls would have been shot too, paintwork was only average IMO though it had a full re-spray and it had not been serviced for yrs.
It just goes to show that there is a lot of poor cars out there at over inflated prices.

Okay it may have had all the work done now but if you don't know what you are doing on IB cars you will lose your shirt getting them up to a standard.

All agreed crimp im there right now!

That said no harm in buying an aircooled, enjoying it, playing with it in the knowledge that there wont be anymore aircooled built so you have something that wont be replicated. These cars will always need maintaining

I bought a 3.2 Carrera last year, I'd always fancied a 911 (I didn't have a 911 poster as a teenager, I built one from a Revell kit instead), and was heartily sick of seeing my car money just evaporate in depreciation.

I've had a few old but high end cars over the years, including a Mercedes CL500 that had cost someone just short of £80K once, I bought it for £7K, and sold it 18 months later for £4k - at least I'd got off relatively lightly compared to the previous owners, also everything I will ever drive is economical compared to that 5 litre V8.

After another spanking with a C-Class, I took the money earning next to nothing from my ISA and took the plunge with a 911. Yes it's raw and raucous, with no PAS , ABS etc, but that's part of the appeal - I have used it as a daily driver, though I am getting a bit precious about where I park it, but last week I did a track day at Oulton, where I think I drove it properly for the first time, with squealing tyres and hot smelly brakes.

It does have the 915 box, and ads for G50's that slag them off annoy me - with the short shift version its fine, as long as you push the clutch pedal all the way in. Never driven a G50, so I don't know why they are seen as so wonderful, and comparing a good G50 with a shagged 915 is like comparing apples and oranges.

In 18 months since I bought it, it has appreciated a damn sight more than the money would have made in my ISA (now a poxy 1.7%) but I would be happy if I'd just stopped the depreciation clock, for the first time in my life. I have no intention of selling it, but just to get my money back would make it the best car I ever bought. Oh, and its a thing of beauty as well, unlike some of the later stuff.

It may just be me that thinks this...but I always get worried (as in wonder how well a car has been looked after) when the wipers are on the wrong way round, as in this case.

As I said, it may just be me…

How can you tell?
The driver’s side wiper should be straight and the wiper that is mounted on the passenger’s side has a kink in the arm.

I think the driver’s side is the same in LHD and RHD but the passenger's side wiper varies between LHD and RHD.

Interesting as one gets the impression from the ad that this thing is really unmolested body wise.

I'm pretty certain that this was the car that Crimp was about to pull the trigger on. Backed out at the last minute. I guess that all that glitters is not gold. Looks good from the pictures.
