I also have a preference for originality however that white SC does have an amazing engine build, and it was rebuilt from a rolling shell. There is a thread detailing the build over on DDK. I like it a lot. No idea if the price is right but if someone is considering an SC resto and similar engine build then this would be a cheaper route.

Whilst i agree it is silly that unloved and poor (relatively) 911s are rising in value merely due to a reliance on reflected glory, i object to modified cars being 'bastardised.' Most of these 'recreations' look better than stock and will probably drive better too. I only see the appeal of standard cars if they are truly rare. Even then, as long as it's reversible, who cares?

I think a G50 Coupe SSE with 75K miles un-welded/original good leather etc is say £40k +- IMPHO in today’s market.

A 140k mile SSE with lots of “patina” one must assume is comfortably less sold as seen. Perhaps 20k if it needs an engine rebuild/trim/bodywork. So I am simply struggling to understand that fitting a set of IROC bumpers elevates its value to £80k together with remedial work it needs anyway to get a half decent price.

The owner is understandably getting irked by my analysis of this situation and as has resorted to insulting me.

This is a public forum and one is free to air ones views is one not?! I’ve seen a hyped market before and I’m seeing it all again…

none - ziebarted and garaged from new. i've been over it with a fine tooth comb. even has the paper barcode sticker on the N/S door shut.

1st owner was an old bloke who owned an engineering business in the north

which is why it's not red with red wheels/linen piped red. quite an unfashionable spec in '88

It's been for sale for a while, which isn't surprising as it's quite a marmite colour combination.

Agree if it was £25k it would be an interesting buy. Personally I'd add a set of fuchs (and keep the telephone dials for originality) and a set of matching brown recaros (similar to the below).

Strange how certain colours suit certain cars- I think yellow looks great on an old 911 like this...
yet on a Jag E Type I think yellow looks awful.

I think this thread adequately demonstrates that the market for aircooled IB cars is reasonably wild at the moment!

In my garage I have a '77 911 Carrera 3.0 Sport Targa (not the easiest of names to get out!!) that my grandfather bought new for my grandmother. Its completely original spec and looks-wise and has covered 39k miles with FPSH but I did get the engine rebuilt last year as it was infuriatingly leaky and had the box done at the same time.

The car is under used these days only getting 500 or so miles per annum so seeing the way the IB cars prices are I'm interested to see what the market would pay. I was offered £35k for it by someone who spotted it at the place it went for the rebuild.





I'm still not sure I could bring myself to let the car go as its been in the family so long but if there are crazy people throwing money at IB cars like the examples earlier in the thread then I may chance my arm! haha!
