More hype and plain silliness

Obviously a thread bump but if you check out the Pre 89 sales on here the majority of the high priced stuff has been for sale for an absolute age (6 months+) just suggests that the market for this has slowed.
I agree , which is why I was so surprised that this car got £K 150 - that's a lot of money , especially meaning the car will owe close to £K 200 if the new owner wants to make it "showroom" perfect - either way , congratulations to whoever's bought it , I hope that they enjoy the journey of brining it back to life : assuming this is the plan , which it may not be ? (To me this is part of the fun) If this is the case , maybe share the journey on PH , cheers Nineexcellence said:
You need to think of this car as not a 3.2. It is a full rsr recreation and is exceptional. The wheels alone were 7k. It is simply amazing. Whether it is worth the money it is different question but you couldn't build this now for the asking price. Just depends on what you want.
And it's SOR so the car will have been well prepared by the owner not the dealer Scooty100 said:

I agree re the comments around the owners trying to recoup their investment. I'll also add that some also believe the hype...they take advice from keyboard warriors about the value of their car rather then trying to benchmark it with what's on the market/sold. The 'backdate' market is stuffed with examples...many poorly executed and finished.Crimp said:

Whilst I agree with this, there is a lot of crapolaand averageness offerd for sale in the PH ads. Maxted Page, DK eng and others offering the best cars (at the highest prices) seem to be doing a lot of business. But that also seems to support the theory that it is becoming a investors market where the maxim has always been to buy the best. A shame. Meanwhile, mine will be roaring round the Cotswolds next Sunday morning with a fellow enthusiast. squirejo said:

MP on another level for the older, correct cars. You won't find an overpriced backdate there.Buy it for 40. Sell it for 70.
It's as easy as that in the Air Cooled Bull Market!!! As long as you want to be the 12th or is it the 13th owner!

I can understand the demand for 'blue chip' collectables, the true classics, and the nicest original, low mls, desirable spec., variants of the later aircooled models.
But, IMO, this sums up the state of the market

That's true, but the speculators are buying to make money on aircooled which at current prices is risky (all IMO).If you're sitting on a pair of mint aircooled cars like a 3.2 and a 964 C2, bought at the right time you're pretty safe!

That's a hefty price tag and the lack of description and poor photo do it no justice at all. However, I saw this car during the build process and a lot of thought and care went into it - no idea whether enough went in to justify £130 big potatoes though! But, IMO, this sums up the state of the market

I think his finger must have slipped and he accidentally typed a 1 in front of the real price. If you really wanted a Speedster you could get a genuine one for similar money. You would have to be certifiable to pay that much for a hacked up SC bitsa. But, IMO, this sums up the state of the market

Absolutely unbelievable advert and the irony he wants £60k even more unbelievable, would give him half of that especially with that advert.Koln-RS said:
I usually say fair play, its a free country and all that, but thats just a bit stupid. It really grates when sellers get the performance figures wrong too. 178mph? Nope.
Not sure if anyone has noticed, and not sure when it happened (I might be hopelessly out of date) but it appears that the Paul Stephens car that started this thread back in October (check page 1) now has a deposit on it. The market seems to have caught up to the price (although no idea if it got that). Interesting though reading back through selected pages how what was deemed as very expensive now seems kinda okay value wise. Looks like the air cooled boat continues to sail away and ever upward...
