Well not as daft as it may seem, I think I'd rather have increase in 'value' of 100% plus in 3 years than a few grand profit on a quick flip. In fact I'm amazed at how few dealers kept some cars back over the years to punt out a bit later on.
Its not just Porsche that have seen their value rise sharply, in fact most classic or special cars are doing very well indeed.
Most businesses need turnover and cash flow to operate, which that business model doesn't give. It's not much of a business to buy something and sit on it for three years waiting for the price to rise, when you can get to the same end result in the same period with a number of smaller trades. Its not just Porsche that have seen their value rise sharply, in fact most classic or special cars are doing very well indeed.
It also assumes that dealers have a fking clue about where the market will be at some time in the future. They're second-hand car salesmen, not soothsayers. Who, honestly, predicted the current prices three years ago?
£80k for a mint low miles 993 C4 narrow body

Paragon sold a similar mint 993 C2 tip for £60k!

This unsold car was £k65 in December of last year !

Of course their pricing is their business - but I can't think of any other business that after failing to sell something in 7 months thinks - "I know what , let's add 20 % to the price and see if that helps " bizarre market !

Lovely looking example, and low mileage has a huge desirability factor. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

In the current frenzied market it will probably sell.

I guess they're lucky that the market has caught up with their pricing. What gets me is the dealers who would then go and overprice an already overpriced car.http://www.williamscrawford.co.uk/yii/explore/inde...

This has similarities to the property market. People tend to look between two price points (often not looking at cheaper properties). As a seller I dropped the price on a flat I was selling and it didn't sell so I took it off the market for a couple of weeks whilst I gave the flat a fresh coat of white paint and then put it on for a higher price and sold it (to a different price bracket). Most lucrative painting I've ever done.

Well to chime into the thread here's a bit of real world bull market experience
I've just declined £80k on my 3.2
And why not? I see an original car worth double the silver restored zero speedo'd PS machine.
So I can confirm the a/c market is cast iron. For now...
Damn, I shudder to think what my mates 50k minter is worth then!I've just declined £80k on my 3.2

Makes the 964 C4 at 4 star classics look reasonable value at £36k.

These still make a 996 turbo look an absolute bargain!

wether its a bargain or not depends what you want from a car. I prefer my 964 C2 to my previous 996 TurboEdited by g7jhp on Wednesday 15th July 19:55
996 Turbo is admitedly a bargain for its out & out performance , but sometimes there is more to it than that. What makes a car enjoyable to one person is different to someone else. Although slower in a staight line by quite some margin, as I say, I really prefer my 964 C2 to my previous 996 Turbo.
( I'll admit though that a C4 isnt really for me )

Within 2 yrs the 996 turbo will be worth more than a vanilla 964 wait and see.
The 4 star classic car looks good, I've dealt with these guys all cars SOR
No dealer is going to buy stock at the inflated prices of the current market. Last time I saw this was in 1989 when I worked for a dealer called the Paradise Garage, and the longer they kept a car on the floor the more money there was to be made on it....The 4 star classic car looks good, I've dealt with these guys all cars SOR
A mate is considering selling a '02 996C4 with 70k miles, nice options and everything done. I guess he'll get £15k for it if he's lucky - which is a rounding error in comparison with value of earlier 911s that are dynamically inferior in every respect.

I've only driven 1 996, a Turbo Tip X50. Proper fast bit of kit.
They just don't feel as well bolted together as a 964, even though they probably are.
