If you've considered a Cabriolet and Supersport, why not look at a 911 Speedster?

Limited number, unique look, mechanically simple (compared to a turbo).
Nice, but ninety grand. They aren't THAT nice in my opinion.

Are they still that cheap? Have you seen what a 550 Barchetta fetches now?

930s are great cars, but as others have said drive one first - I've always liked turbos so when I test drove my '88 in 2009 I went into it with an optimistic frame of mind and absolutely loved it.
This morning, I took her for a blast, and on a bright cold day it doesn't get much better - the cold air obviously helps the intercooler and she felt as sharp as she must have felt out the box in 1988, but then I've spent a lot of money on her, and as a result of enthusiasm over the years the mileage has gone up from 79,000 in '09 to 112,000 now (roughly 6,000 a year).
I bought her for £22,000 in 09 and have spent the same again I'm sure on top end, clutch, flywheel, turbo refurb, suspension refresh, kidneys, sills, heat exchangers, fabspeed muffler etc ... (the car had been tucked away in a garage for 4 years prior to me buying her).
I reckon that if I wasn't such a perfectionist I could have got away with spending say £12,000 in 5 years, so budget saving maybe £150 a month for a pot - some years you won't need, others you'll need double.

Gents

Thank you all very much for taking the time to pass on advise and sharing your experience.
I have also been looking at F1 430 Spiders and am in the process of making an offer on one at the moment.
I deliberated between a classic 911 cabriolet and a 430 spider for quite some time and have decided to take the 430 route.
A big difference I know but the right car has come along and I don't want to pass on the opportunity.

Thanks again for sharing your valuable experiences

Congratulations Charlie, sure it'll be a better drive than a 930 turbo Cabriolet.

Please add a pic when it arrives! smile

Thank you.
I will post some pics when I get it home, as long as I don't get slated for putting pics of a Ferrari on a Porsche forum !!!! getmecoat
