Rear ended at traffic lights, insurance write off. Cash settlement to be sorted but will not be much. So do I repair my one previous owner 1996 993 Targa tip? Or do I take the cash and leave it? Heavy rear quarter damage only. Engine still runs. But one whole wheel assembly destroyed. Mileage about 70k.
UK value, low £20k, local value about same, insurance payout.....not sure yet but surprised if it will reach £5k.

Is it zenith blue / metallic blue colour ? Plus some damage at the front?

Currently near south mimms?

Looks light so if the insurance payout is low it may be better off repairing. On me if you need any help with transport or a good Bodyshop if you don't have one.

If it's a UK rhd car, then fully repaired to a high standard throughout, it could be worth c.£25-30k. However, the market isn't currently keen on Targas and Tips - the premium prices being commanded by the best Manual Coupes.

If it is to be 'written off' then hopefully it would find its way to a Porsche specialist as there should be demand for the salvageable 993 parts and components.

Most people wouldnt touch a write off with a barge pole, regardless of how well its fixed, hence why all damage repaired Porsches are half what they are normally worth. And by law you have to declare it.

its a tough one in your case, 5k is a rubbish settlement. But then, if you repair it it could be upwards of 5k, and sell it, you may actually make less in the long run.

Id bite the bullet and take the 5k, and put it into another Porsche, but thats just me!

What am I missing here?
If your insurance company has declared the vehicle an uneconomic repair, then they should give you the current market value and take it away.
If you decide to keep the vehicle then the settlement figure would be the agreed figure, minus the agreed salvage value of the vehicle. You would also get to keep the car.
From the prices I've seen lately,£20k sounds low for a one owner 993,with only 70k on the clock.
Agree that cat. c/d cars are considerably less desirable.

This ^^^^^. Low mileage Targa Tip with total of two owners ... If she was in good condition pre accident, and had a decentish (is that a word?) history. Then she would probs be well worth north of £25K.

Sort it out son. It seems possible your well under valuing your 993.

Thanks for all the help. I'm Middle East based so motor insurance here is a bit more challenging than in Blighty. OPC have given me an estimate of about £13k to repair the Targa. Other driver's insurance co have written it off as beyond economic repair. Basically anything over 7 years old here has no more value left in their eyes. So armed with printouts of similar cars for sale across the region I'm now off to argue with them about how much they are going to give me. Can't see it being enough to buy back the car and fund the repairs and I don't think spending that much of my own money to repair it is worth it. Seen a nice 996 turbo convertable...

Repair work started, she is going back on the road. All parts available, a busy next few weeks visiting OPC for coffee and progress updates

It is possible to verify the repair and have Cat C/D listing removed legitimately.

Yes this. I had a vile time selling my Cat D caterham. It had been completely re-chassied so was in far better condition than if it had been original. Took it to Autolign, they had one look and laughed as it was obviously in tip top condition. Got the change, to condition inspected. Made very little difference to the sale process!
