Why have 964's grown in popularity?

It just felt so damn heavy at the back to me and felt nowhere as nimble or as planted as a 3.2 and epecially a 993 to me.
As I said, the OP asked for opinions, I was just giving him mine through my experience. If he decides its the car for him, fair play and I hope he enjoys it.
Its funny how the world changes. For about a decade this was a very non-controversial opinion which a lot of people made, now that the cars have this mythical aura around them one is not allowed to post negatives any more. As I said, the OP asked for opinions, I was just giving him mine through my experience. If he decides its the car for him, fair play and I hope he enjoys it.
People love the cars they own because they have to justify their decision. It was interesting that EVO did that comparison of all 911s and came away from the 993 being quite unimpressed. Funny how shortly prices for every other type of 911 then went up! In fairness, the article did sway me from getting a 993...
Never driven a 964 but always thought they looked too limp wristed other than the (Turbo). I like a 911 with wide hips. Kind of assumed people agreed and that's why prices were so low.
Would love a Singer though

It wasn't that long ago that the 964 was for many the least desirable 911 ever made, and now they are all the rage.
I'd love to hear some of your opinions on why.
Same views here; the 964 has original narrow-bodied, upright head-lamped 911 shape but made much more usable with 'modern' levels of grip and go, decent heating and ventilation, and much improved NVH (although I accept the comments about road noise through the old school rear suspension). Probably the only downside for me is the cranked driving position which causes me problems on long motorway hauls.I'd love to hear some of your opinions on why.
I've had a couple and would happily run another as a daily driver/restomod project.

I know 964's are the last of the 'proper' looking 911's with the traditional looking headlights etc-
however a friend of mine has a 964 and whenever I park next to him in my 993 C2 coupe I always think
the 993 curves look far superior....there's no comparison imho....Tony Hatter got it spot on.
It seems odd that some voices in the car media now rave about the 964 whilst being down on the 993-
a few years back if you read an article about air cooled 911's they all banged on about the 993 being
the best built, end of an era, the one to buy.....funny how fickle this car job is...

Not as nice to look at as Pippa's backside- but still....

people said the same about the 74-89 IB cars
Don't doubt that but I'm (waits for nuclear bomb to go off) no fan of the long bonnet cars. I admit I'm on my own here but I think the IB machines are my fave. Each to their own..

The sexiest rear of them all, and perfectly proportioned IMO. What's not to like. however a friend of mine has a 964 and whenever I park next to him in my 993 C2 coupe I always think

From Total 911.. http://www.total911.com/joshs-top-five-porsche-911...
Given that I declared this “my new favourite 911” after my test drive in September, it would be sacriligeous should the Porsche 964 Carrera 2 not make my top five 911s drive of 2014. It was, simply, a sublime little car that retained the intrinsic classic 911 character in a modernised package.
... It certainly confirmed why the 964 is experiencing such a resurgence.
