Yes, that was my old 993. The dealer (home dealer) made a few £k profit it seems. Good luck to him. He seemed like a nice guy.
It appears you let it go for a considerable amount less (maybe 20-25%) than market value. Ouch. But then you have your dream car now, enjoy the AM.

OP - don't do it. Bet you've received many inquiries already though biggrin.

I looked at like this.
I was sick of having a large amount of money sat in the garage getting little use for fear of damage etc.
So with the money I made on the various cars (930/GT3 ETC) I put a big lump sum down on a rental property and bought a 996 Turbo to use.

I know I know. I do love her ......... Just don't tell the wife how much.

The Aston is a damn good looking motor though.

997 so much better to drive and own than the AM though.
I have been lucky enough to own most 911 models over the last 20 years and now on our second 997.1 and have had one since 2006. The fact we have kept one model so long - and went back for more - says a lot about how great it is. My brother has a Gen2 - nice car too and more refined if that is your thing.

I often think about selling in order to try something else. I posted years ago that the 997 gen 2 was set to be the 'new' 993. Built for roughly the same time period, same styling cues and last before electric steering and handbrake became the norm. They are great to drive albeit the pse sounds better on gen 1.

There are too many interesting alternatives to a 911 to name so I feel your dilemma. Breaking the chains of depreciation is liberating but you remain, contrary to what some say, shackled by costs of upkeep which on a close to 20 year old car, cAn be significant.

I'm not one for detailing the treadblocks or re spraying rather than cleaning but at the same time I don't want something looking worn or old and if you want an old car to look good it will cost.

I can't shake the worry that if I sold I could never get another like the one I have. I think I might regret selling and that prevents me from going ahead with a sale. An Aston is going to be plus Porsche in terms of servicing. I'd imagine on a newer car like that you remain tethered to the main dealer network for servicing which can't be cheap. Going Indy on an Aston? Got to torpedo resale surely?

Blimey Highway, you've hit the nail on the head. Its the thought I wouldn't enjoy the Aston or 997 as much and then unable to either afford or be able to get another 993 which I feel would be as good as the one I already own.

Classic car values and depreciation. Two evils from different spectrums that both dictate what we can and can't afford if we haven't an endless pot to dip in too.

Had my 993 over 5 years now and can't see me selling unless I was offered a ludicrous sum of money for it. That said I, unlike many, do not delude myself it's the best drivers car ever. All old cars are to a lesser of greater degree, hard work. Some people find a thrill in that just how some people want to cut their lawn with a manual rotary mower that has blades and a roller on the back. Some people want vinyl rather than digital etc etc.

The modern stuff is faster, more economical, better riding and I'd argue better to drive in every measurable way. The word "measurable" typically becomes the word the die hards hone in on and focus their arguments around in latter posts.

I have used PDK previously and argued that driving is steering, accelerating, slowing down and changing gear. Why would you want to lose one of those elements? However, after 3 days in a 981 S PDK with PSE, it's sublime. It's quick, sounds fantastic and changing a la paddle is satisfying of itself

All Boxsters are great drivers cars. However the values aren't there and they are perceived 2nd best to a 911 of any description.

I think the 987 Spyder values are pretty good and I'd have one over an SC or cooking 996.1/996.2/997.1!

Bloody hell that is me! Even my watches need winding!
it has been interesting reading this thread. The AM V8(or V12) is such a lovely looking car, I saw a great one in Chelsea in brg with tan leather and wistfully thought of owning one. But......I could never sell the 993 as I no doubt couldn't afford to get back into one. Do I feel trapped, yes at times but I also feel privalaged that I own the 993.
I saw 5 993's on the streets of Chelsea after the AM.....I think the 993 knew i was having lustfull thoughts of another and made sure I was reminded just how lovely ''er indoors is.
