Indeed, but they make the cars ride absolutely perfectly on our potholed/poorly maintained roads.
I'd have take your word on that one, however I didn't choose my car for ride quality, in fact that was the last consideration, styling came first. I dought you'd disagree?

Fit 'em, don't fit 'em, it makes no odds to me

I do tend to change my mind as time passes but for now I won't be fitting them as I find them the least appealing.

If you are thinking about upgrading your brakes to big reds this will have an effect on the rims you run. To be honest, unless you are looking to track the car, it's an upgrade that isn't really necessary but I thought that I'd mention it. I have them on my 964 and they just fit under 18" Speedline reps.

D'90's are the only original equipment wheels I have felt the need to change. Even back in the early mid 90's they were not pretty or overly light considering their size.

I think Fuchs on a 964 is a "fad", maybe driven by Singer and the availability of genuine Fuchs wheels now being available in 964 sizes/offsets.

It seams Rob Singer spent the best part of a decade designing/crafting/eliminating in order to get to a definitive solution, i'm pretty confident Fuchs are not a "fad" on a 964. However if you can give a compelling argument for why they're a fad i'll be happy to listen.
IMO Cup 1 are vanilla and a safe choice.

I love Fuchs, still have a set of mint 7 & 9x16s stored away from my last 3.2.

The reason Rob has used Fuch on the Singer cars is down to the fact Singer's are an styled on an early 911 and wouldn't look right with anything else.

I personally don't like Fuchs on a 964 as they look too big (IMO) and think there are more modern alternatives which suit the 964 better.

My top 3 would be:

1) Cup 1's
2) Speedlines
3) BBS

But Cup 1's are my clear favourite due to their simple design and because they're easy to clean.

I have a set of Speedline reps and a set of Fuchs for my 964. The Fuchs are my road wheels and Speedlines my track wheels. It's all subjective but I think that the classic lines of the 964 suit the fuch nicely and they in turn subtlety date the car. I don't think that this works as well on later cars. Also it depends on the style of fuch design that you fit. The standard satin black centres I think have a sportier and more subtle look than the RSR style, which can look a little 'trying to hard to be retro'.

I would be happy to run cups but the 993 turbo front brakes on my car and the need for a better choice of tyre options pushed me Towards 18" wheels.. All down to personal opinion of course. When I get them mounted up I will post some pics of both sets of wheels fitted if it helps

Shall we just agree to differ on this ? You seem hellbent on arguing for the sake of it. This when I've already said, fit Fuchs, don't fit Fuchs, I really don't give a Fuch.

Had Rob Dickinson not fitted them to the Singer, I'm doubtful the many manufacturers who've jumped on the bandwagon would've felt compelled to do so.

I suggest you take a long look at what Rob has done to the Singer chassis to make the wheels and their offsets work. For the record, I have no issue with the Fuchs replicas on the Singer, they're stunning, but they're stunning because of the massive offset and the relationship between the wheels/tyres to the wheelarches.

If you think these cars look good on the Fuchs, great :

Why you want/need me to justify my assertion they're a passing fad is beyond me ? If you like them and want them on your car, fit the Fuching things.
You asked for opinions in your opening post, if you're that concerned about someone's opinion that opposes yours, don't ask for it !

You're new on here, I get that, and this probably isn't quite the welcome you expected, if that's the case.
I am new on here and I dought you'll ever see me comment on anything mechanical or technical but on design related issues I'll have my say. On the issue of offset, I suspect this was determined by geographical and cultural factors of being based in LA where greater offset seams to be the norm. Had Singer been based in the UK this would have been less.

What is you're choice OP? Posters have offered up suggestions to which you have said D90's are too small, Cup 1 are vanilla...and you have taken great exception to the outrageous suggestion that Fuchs may be a fad....

NO I took exception to the the mention of Singer popularising a Fad which is just wrong. 10 years of effort with a small fortune spent on design and development to be related to a Fad/trend. TBH I found that a a lazy cheap shot.

My conclusion

- D90 crossed off unless they're available in 18"
- BBS over the top
- Cup 1 like warning M&S shoes with a designer suite
- RUF, Speedline and Fuchs. I'd take any of those.

Singer has put the spotlight firmly on the 964 in recent years which has been both positive and negative. I am in the camp that finds some of the styling a little ott, wheels as cmoose said are too large and deep imho. Several firms including Fuch have started production of similar looking retro wheels on the back of Singer cars getting a lot of press, so the link between Fuchs and Singer is not as tenuous or lazy as you may think. In the end YOU choose what YOU like and the hell with other opinions. So what do YOU like?

But "backdating" a 964 to a 3.2/SC Impact bumper look with some modern day and puny looking Fuchs just looks naff. If you're going to do that, you may as well go all out and sign up the Magnus Walker love fest that's currently in vogue and bolt his latest "innovation" on :

I have to say I quite like that.
