964 C2 - Do I just generate a random number ?!
Discussion
I don't often look in here and even in the last 12 months I can't believe the forum has actually swayed even more towards "value" threads, yawn, but I'm with Pete.
Not going to try and put my views into text too much as I'll no doubt word it in a way so that a pedant can poke holes in it, but £50k for a 964 Carerra!
I loved mine at £15k but even then I always hoped I didn't bump into matey boy from the local retail park who could blow it away with his Astra VXR or Focus ST.
Lovely little cars but the actual physical goods and performance you get do not warrant £50k. Just, no. Rose tinted hysteria. And, yes you could say that about the RS and it's a numbers game etc, but I don't care.
The fan boys can protest all they want, about the billy big bks challenge of taming the beast that is a classic 911 and not wanting a car that makes things easy at the limit, blah, blah. There's always the other end of the spectrum given as an example too, e.g. GTR with all it's electronics but there are lots of happy mediums, that offer feedback, noise looks, and lots more performance than 250bhp.
It would be liking buying an original Fireblade because you like taming the beast, when really if you ride it on the limit, on a bumpy road it will try and tankslapper you off into the scenary very quickly, where as you could hop on a new one, which won't try and kill you and will give you 99% of the thrills of the old one.... and be faster should you want that. Not using that as a direct example of the different Porsche driving experiences because I don't like many of the new ones, but do love the older ones, but this "value" thing is beyond daft now.
Not saying faster is automatically better, as I don't necessarily subscribe to that, although it is more fun, but £50K for a 964 Carrera!
No offence to the OP, I mean this generally regarding the market, but it's pure greed. Which luckily for the sellers, when that is coupled with even greedier people next in line, who think it will go up even more, means they get a sale. Human nature eh, its a funny old thing to watch.
Anyway, I'm off to Silverstone to thrash a Cayman GT4 next week. I'm sure I'll come away wishing it had less power, a more "bob'y" front end, had tried to kill me more often and that the instructor had bleated on about what it'll be worth in 12 months a bit more often, but hey, I'll take one for the team and try and salvage some enjoyment out of it anyway.
£50k.....

So, just to be clear, you don't think a 964C2 is worth 50k then?
I think he's on the fence on this one.No offence taken by any of the comments btw. I appreciate they're directed at the market and not my car as such :-)
Like all markets, some people will always have differences of opinion. It's what makes the world interesting.

I agree what you say about driving dynamics and I'm sure the GT4 is EPIC but wouldn't swap my C2 for 2 GT4sNot going to try and put my views into text too much as I'll no doubt word it in a way so that a pedant can poke holes in it, but £50k for a 964 Carerra!

Its a pleasure pottering about in her like an old fart!
II have a lovely 997GT3 clubsport and a slightly modded 964 in my garage. I love them both but it the keys to the 964 that I more often than not go for if I want to go for a drive.
Worth 50k? Couldn't care less. If you think it is, but one if you don't think it is then don't. How much is a good series 1 etype or a DB4 these days? I've driven both. Didn't work for me. If you start trying to justify the worth of cars on the way that they drive then you are on a slippery slope.
Would I prefer a GT4 over my 964? No I wouldn't. It's a subjective choice, there is no wrong and no right.

You are Jeremiah Clerkson, and ICMFP.I can appreciate aspects of almost any car or bike. I like old classics to Supercars and as I've said I like 964s. For me personally though, I'd want more than 250bhp for £50k. I've owned a lovely C2 and it was a good car for £15k, but thats it.
I'm guessing most of the people who don't share my views on a £50k 964 will be owners, who also didn't pay £50k for theirs but would love to achieve that amount should they sell.
Any owners who do think they are worth £50k, please feel free to say how close to that you actually paid.

£250 bhp is irrelevant. Trying to hustle her along on her wobbly suspension is satisfying. Bit like going fast on stilts lol

You're probably right about the retail park but the ST I came across at Oulton Park on Tuesday didn't put up much of a fight. pork911 said:

Id,
have you had (m)any enquiries about your car yet?
I'm thinking about selling mine and I don't know whether to try now or have a bit more fun with it and wait until next May/June.
I wouldn't say the enquiries I've had were very serious (Hence it's not sold!) but then it's only been a week or so.have you had (m)any enquiries about your car yet?

It may be a little late in the year now but I've only really advertised to see if I got a bite or not as in no rush to sell and happy to hold until next year if required.
