I used the same argument when I purchased a set of Carlos Fandango wheels for me Ford Anglia.

Never got me anywhere with the ladies though (which was obviously the reason for buying them), but then again I never had the nonce to tell them I needed the wheels for racing at weekends biggrin

(I think we need some 'no-fixed-spoilers' thread-balance)

All look very nice to me. I think that the 993 suits a spoiler a little better than the 964. IThe only caviat personally would be that the car is sitting low and it's OEM either RS or CS spoilers. All subjective of course.

Actually I think that what this thread proves is that we all like our 993s dragging along the ground - like oikish-youths - regardless of spoilers.

Not a fan of the spoilers on the 993s.

It's the lower suspension and 18" wheels that improve the stance of the 993. But, again, these should be OE and not too extreme - they don't necessarily improve the driving enjoyment.

Doubt they'll ever improve on the 993 shape as a modern take on classic 911.

Do you think that Porsche just put a ducktail on the first RS because it looked cool?

No I dont, I am not talking about the 2.7RS, I am sure the aero of that is well resolved for its time.

The 993 has vastly different aero, especially underneath and you cant really compare them. Porsche never fitted a duck to the 993 so it has never been tested.

It's a damn good slice of science though, and so thanks for posting GH.

What a difference on the rear lift.

No, it was to homologate it for racing.

Spoilers clearly work, even on the road, but the 'aesthetic' solution from the 964 onwards has been a retractable rear spoiler.

I am no aero expert so cannot really dispute what you are saying, but what I do know is that aero is a complex area and you have to take into account the whole of the car including the underneath.

You cant just slap one spoiler on somewhere and expect it to have the same effect on different cars.

I follow F1 quite closely and some of what seems like a minute change to a front wing end plate has ramifications all along the car to the extent that no one change can be considered in isolation, its all cumulative. I appreciate that the duck spoiler is a little bit more barn door than F1 tech, but the same rules apply.

Oooooh no Mrs.

The rear is a very different shape and especially width, as are the front wings. You really need to do the science again.... and I'm sure they did.
