It's a race car so as always function over form
I used the same argument when I purchased a set of Carlos Fandango wheels for me Ford Anglia. Never got me anywhere with the ladies though (which was obviously the reason for buying them), but then again I never had the nonce to tell them I needed the wheels for racing at weekends

No I dont, I am not talking about the 2.7RS, I am sure the aero of that is well resolved for its time. The 993 has vastly different aero, especially underneath and you cant really compare them. Porsche never fitted a duck to the 993 so it has never been tested.

I am no aero expert so cannot really dispute what you are saying, but what I do know is that aero is a complex area and you have to take into account the whole of the car including the underneath. You cant just slap one spoiler on somewhere and expect it to have the same effect on different cars.
I follow F1 quite closely and some of what seems like a minute change to a front wing end plate has ramifications all along the car to the extent that no one change can be considered in isolation, its all cumulative. I appreciate that the duck spoiler is a little bit more barn door than F1 tech, but the same rules apply.
