Good opportunity to drive a C2 and a C4 back to back, also a varioram and a pre-v as well!

The silver C4 is advertised as a MY95 car, and looks like it's a pre-v engine, but I'm basing that only on the exhaust tips.
The engine-lid shut-line looks slightly off on the passenger side - worth a closer look IMO.
The wheels may or may not be OE - I can't see if there's any numbers stamped either side of the valve stem. (Rear tyres are Michelin = good if not too old, and fronts are P-zero red-labels = bad)
Indicator lenses are all OE.
Dunno why the advert states it has a black interior. I guess it shows you should treat everything written in an advert as 'probably wrong', and go and look for yourself.
The blue c2 has one of 'those' interiors, but if the car is a keeper you can get it retrimmed in any colour you like. ps the wheels are Turbo-looks, probably OE, and are one of the heaviest wheels known to man - also wearing the worst tyres ever, P-zeros N-rated red-labels designed in the 1990s for dry italian roads only. The indicator lenses have been changed, even the wing repeaters.
No rear photos?

g7jhp - agree with what you say, except...
How did it get into such a state in the first place? It certainly hasn't been a weekend toy and kept in a dehumidified garage for the past 20 years.
Hopefully the bodyshop sorted the screen apertures properly, but did they do the rear chassis legs?
Certainly worth a few phone calls, but.................

From the description on the website it's been very cared for, but fails to mention the glass out respray on the PH advert, which is surprising.
The description on the website is full of prose, but low on fact. All it says is '48k service and glass-out respray' and yet they put the old rear lights/reflector back? They're only 400 GBP. whilst we have some very knowledgeable 993 people on, I have a question or two
I am looking for a set of original 993 C2 17 inch cup 2 wheels - could anyone help me establish how you tell if they are genuine or copies and what I should be paying for a decent set of 4 wheels?
Also, what good quality tyres would you suggest for normal road use
thanks in advance
Andrew

Basically OE so-called Cup2 (actually called Cup Design '93) wheels have the width and offset stamped either side of the valve hole.
The ones which came on the early 993 were '7 55' and '9 70', and the later rims changed to '9 55' rears.
Many people feel that the ET70 wheel sits too far 'in', and the ET55 is the one to have.
Copy rims have no embossing next to the valve hole.
If you can see the back-face of the wheel, then the part numbers confirm originality.
...here is your bible.

I just happened to have had mine refurbished, ready for sale
ETA - for normal road use, the 'safest' choice is the Michelin PS2 N3, as it is an excellent tyre that can still compete with the latest tyres. But it is relatively expensive. Rears are 145 GBP each.
Your issue with the rear tyre size is availability - 255/40/17 is not that common. Some people go down to 245/40/17, but the resulting diameter is too much of a drop for some owners.
Hankook Ventus S1 EVO2 are well regarded, but whatever you do, don't choose the stone-aged P-Zero red-label or any of the other 1990s N-rated Pirellis - they are rubbish in the wet from day one, and rubbish in the dry once more than half worn.

Ok so I'm going to speak to him tomorrow and will put various questions to him and see if he'll budge significantly on price.
Just to clarify re the rear lights are we saying they're just unloved or is it a sign car has been left outside for ages hence the points about rust?
Not getting great vibes about car TBH but been to see what dealer says.
Thanks again for all the great advice.

Its hard to say for sure on the lights but its certainly lived outside for a good portion of its life, but then again most have!Just to clarify re the rear lights are we saying they're just unloved or is it a sign car has been left outside for ages hence the points about rust?

I think the point is that fastidious owners would replace or at least machine polish up.
Just stumbled across this one that looks quite nice. Personally I love Polar Silver having had a 996 Carrera 4 in those colours.

Looks like a lovely car. We can forgive the incorrect indicator lamps... http://www.williamscrawford.co.uk/yii/explore/inde...
POA? Worth a call I suppose. Just remember that anything can be shined up. Full and detailed inspection is required.
Oooh much better - that's worth a visit. Some people don't like the Metropole interior, but IMO it's much better than grey or black. Not as good as red, mind
Shame the advert is still just as strong on prose and weak on facts. Why does nobody list the underbonnet codes?
Air-con? Hardback sports seats and a 3-spoke 996 steering wheel, which is nice.

I'm picking mine up from its annual service at Adrian's next weekend if anyone is genuinely interested in an honest appraisal of this car. No connection blah etc, Adrian knows I don't pull any punches !
Tell him his advertising writer needs a refresher course - this isn't the 1930s As there are now a few more photos, we glean it has got air-con and a sunroof. Still haven't seen the engine.
Funny isn't it? I agree with this sentiment 100%...

......but then he doesn't list any history or work done to the car. And no, a phonecall isn't good enough.
I'll just pop down to Devon shall I?
Hey Mr Crawford - is the position of advertising manager vacant? My rates would surprise you.
