Having owned.my gt2 for 10 years now I can say I have loved every moment of owning her.i bought her with 67,000 miles she's now done 75,000 miles. She has never been tracked and was uprated to 530 bhp from new. One day on ebay a standard exhsust came up with cats so I bought it and low and behold it was the original one for the car and I returned with the car to pick it up of the original owner.ive had the car serviced every year at Northway or main dealer. It's still running original ceramic disks.
I had a open check service last year as it's been so reliable I had only had a rad pack and a lamda probe in the first 9 years. So I had the condensers replaces a couple of air con pipes and a sensor few other bits came to £2000 apart from this it's been on average £400 a year average service oill and filter and big service brake fluid change gear oil change never had any pads yet. Yes and a couple of sets of tyres on the rear the fronts are dated 2005 oops
The car is a one previous owner and the guy who owned it used it as a Dailey driver with a fair few motorway miles I guess.
I remember a guy wit a rs4 and others saying they will never go up in value lol I bought mine for £40000 it's a nice spec being a comfort yet the leather bucket seats so I believe although it's done a few miles and never tracked and being full history and original except the power upgrade to which I have the original parts and after looking at various cars for sale and did I mention never crashed all original panels it's worth well over £100,000 now maybe even £130,000 when you look at some of the cars which say low mileage ......
Any how this post is really just to say how much I love the car how great a car it is to own, how reliable the car is and how little it costs to run a car like this. Yes people will respond that I don't use it much but I own 7 cars and I believe use it sparingly and enjoy every drive. Ive kept this car longer than any car I have owned the reason is im actually scared of it I know it has the potential to destroy me if I take liberties to drive this car fast is such a thrill and it's the only car that I have ever labeled as "awsome".

Before someone else pipes up I feel It's my duty to say the car is due a '£10k refresh' smile

Congratulations on a great car, a real showcase for what Porsche produce, awesome reliable quality machines

Lovely thing, but I always felt they were just a little too scary for me.

Definitely awesome.

Lovely, I think the 996 GT2 has aged very well indeed.

Heres to driving them. 4 years into ownership for me this month. My 997 RS has just clicked over 50k miles. Bought with 36k miles on. Still not bored of it and looking forward to the next 50k miles.

Sadly don't get to use it as much as I would like. But it sure puts a smile on every time I'm out in it.
Simply Awesome machine.

depends what one is happy to drive at 180mph I guess

"never had any pads yet"

"front tyres are 2005"

I guess it could do with some money spending on it.

That is a lovely car Russ but I don't see how you can be surprised at the low cost of ownership and high reliability you're seeing if you only cover 8K in 10 years? Would have been more impressive if you'd have done 3 x that (same costs) with some hero road trips stories to boot (and you'd have enjoyed it even more no doubt).

Thank you for all the positive feedback Yep could do with some new front tyres never noticed the date until my kitchen fitter pointed it out last week but as I said I had a open cheque service last year so I can't see I need to spend 10 k on it lol ive had every item that's required to be changed done plus I have asked for more im sure they would do more work if they could find it.Yes I believe in using it sparingly because then I enjoy every mile and as I have other cars I can't be driving it all the time and I have a family so only having two seats it's more occasional use. I need to drive my Bentley Gtc Supersports which is a four seater with the veyron carbon seats gives plenty of space for the rear passengers. Also my Tickford turbo Capri turbo trchnics 280 capri I drine a sportline Kombi van too and I have to go to work some days. I like keeping my cars special and to drive not to often makes it a sence of occasion every time.

Great to read, they're an awesome bit of kit. I had 2 years in a 996 and now coming up 5 years in my 997. There's really nothing else I'd want to drive at the moment.

I know of a few 996s that have sold privately lately and gone into big collections, there's some real interest in them now, shame that they're disappearing from the roads though frown

Can't be many more than 90 UK cars left can there, I was thinking of buying a low mileage car but I looked at them on here and couldn't see a nice one that looked original with pccb etc.

Lovely car but 8,000 miles in 10 years is hardly a sign of someone who loves their car.

I've put 19,000 miles on my 996 turbo X50 in 4 years and still feel like I don't use it enough.

The fact it's gone up in value is only applicable if you sell it.

Stop keeping it for the next owner and get out and use it if you enjoy it.

Since buying it as a 3 years old / 8000 mile car, I have enjoyed 11 years and 26000 miles indulgence in my Mk 1 996 GT2 club sport. Never remapped and the original ceramic discs and exhaust are on a shelf.

For me it is a keeper, although recent mileage is much reduced since it was anointed garage Queen.
